That’s not what the article says. It says she currently doesn’t qualify based on her fibromyalgia, but she might re-apply if it gets worse.

Doctors need to stop with that diagnosis. It’s the blow off of we don’t know what is wrong and cannot be bothered figuring it out. I was diagnosed with it and years later finally got a good doctor and it’s far more serious. The daily pain can be bad.

No country allows it for fibromyalgia. I have fibromyalgia and other diseases and everyday is a real struggle for me. Sometimes I feel like I'm a waste of breath and would be better off gone but I do not have the guts to kill myself.

DP. This is a disgusting take. One of my extended family members offed himself because of chronic pain and depression. He had four kids: two were already adults and two were still minors. By your logic, he had zero responsibility to his kids to try his damndest to get better.

This person had no children, or it seems, reason to live. Which also makes me sad.

Wrong. There is no assisted death on demand in Canada. There are two separate tracks for those who are terminal and those who are suffering intolerably and both include a sort of the process two independent assessments by medical professionals.

Information is not entirely clear. Incurable could mean terminal, and terminal can mean soon or a long time from now. There is a family that has been the subject of a lot of Alzheimer's research because it is a particular inherited type of early onset Alzheimer's that can be tested for but couldn't in the early generations (going back to the 1920s or so iirc). Before the cause was known, several generations had their families first torn apart because of a parent who became extremely mentally unstable and often turned to alcohol before dying at a relatively young age, only to gradually see siblings suffer the same fate. In one fmaily, one sibling out of seven was free the genetic inheritance.

If someone has an incurable disease that is also terminal on some time scale, if they wait too long they will be ineligible to use assisted suicide. They have to be physically able to administer medication themselves as well as be able to make the legal decision to go ahead at the time they do it.

IMO , this is by design.
People like you, OP, likely support assisted death as an option bc you picture great grandma suffering in her final days…and it seems humane.

But the people who pushed this into law are proponents of eugenics and population control. They know this will not only appeal to people who have terminal illlnesses, but they will push it onto younger and younger people (many with mental health disorders) who will accept that this is a solution for a less than ideal life.

There should be a rule no self harm while parents still alive. Otherwise I have no issue with “younger ppl with mental health disorders” choosing it.
At least their kids won’t inherit it. But don’t hurt the parents
