I live in a small condo and could afford much more expensive housing with my take-home pay. I haven't moved because I don't value living somewhere bigger enough to spend a lot more on it. My mortgage + condo fee is about $2700, and if I bought a house I'd have to either spend a large chunk of my savings on it or have a much higher payment. I'd rather spend my money on things like travel.

But the difference between us, OP, is that I am married and my husband is on the same page. It is reasonable for your girlfriend to have a diffrent opinion than you do on your apartment. I wouldn't move out right now just because your girlfriend doesn't like it, but if/when you move in together, moving in to your apartment will be a non-starter. You'll need to compromise.

What did you bring with you when you moved?

Such an ignorant question.
