I would rather sell my house and move than have my kid schlepp across this county and start commuting long distances at a young age. They can learn about that in adulthood.

Nobody is denying transportation to your kid. Your kid WILL have transportation to a school, just not the school you want.

Can’t wait to hold the likes of Karl Frisch and Robyn Lady accountable for their breaking with many decades of FCPS precedent on providing transportation to redistricted kids. Neither should EVER have been elected in the first place.

I cannot believe the hypocrisy of people like Frisch and Lady, who'd waste $85 million of taxpayer money on a completely unnecessary Dunn Loring ES, but claim to be budget-conscious when it comes to denying transportation to elementary and middle school kids. We should not be electing people like them to public office. Whatever their agenda is, it's not about putting kids first.

Are you really that stupid?
Reid's proposal discriminated against those who can't arrange their kids' transportation, who are disproportionately lower-income, and what the School Board adopted discriminates against elementary and middle school families, which tend to be younger and, again, more likely lower-income. It's the opposite of equity.

Everyone should watch the debate that just happened and share it everywhere. Ultimately only high school students will have transportation. Some like Karl Frisch said nothing. Many of these board members don't care about students - this discussion makes that clear.

My kids are among those impacted by the boundary changes. We most certainly did not choose to attend another school and my kids should be able to stay at their current schools AND receive transportation.
I don't understand this - you bought the house you did knowing it was zoned to Fairfax County Public Schools. There is never a guarantee that your house will stay zoned to the house it is currently zoned to. You bought your house with that understanding. Now the schools have changed, that means your children have to change schools. If you *choose* to keep them in their old school, then it is your responsibility to transport them. Similar to if you *choose* to send them to a language immersion or arts school in the county. Personally, I think TJ and AAP centers should also be treated as a choice school, but Fairfax County has this completely inequitable "advanced academics" program that they insist on providing transportation for.

The only folks moved to a lower rated HS were moved to Mount Vernon from West Potomac, and they aren't posting on DCUM. Try again.
