I don't clean earrings before I wear them, but wiping the posts of earrings seems way less germophobe than worrying about a necklace made of metal or another non-porous material. Earrings go through a body part. Making sure they're clean makes some sense. A necklace is totally different.

It’s on you to know and follow the return policy.

You bought it, you worn it, you were denied a return leave it there. To try another store location to scam is diabolical. You sound like a cheap serial returner and the cashier recognize you as well. Do not try to do this at another location.

Op- are you overweight? I ask not to shame you but because I am overweight and carry a lot weight in my neck- often necklaces that have extenders are made to wear at the shortest length to be “centered”- so if you need the extender (I do on some necklaces) then they do move around and become lopsided. I just adjust often- I will also wear a collared top or my hair down to hide the excess chain showing.

I do feel if you buy something and it doesn’t work for what you bought it for- you should be able to return it- but not after it has seen a night out or worn multiple times. I have sensitive skin and sometimes necklaces and earrings cause a rash and irritate me, but I just donate the item versus trying to return.

Now if I buy shoes and try them on in my home on my clean floors and they don’t fit, I return.

People who are serial returners and lie are the reason stores are getting more strict with their return polices and hurt shoppers who are honest and legitimate.

Am I the only one who wants to see a picture of the necklace that wouldn't sit right? OP post a link!

I've had some people process returns with out even caring and others give me the third degree to a very unnatural level for a typical return

I vote for a return if you still have the tag and you’re still within the return window. People try on necklaces at stores. Say you tried it and it didn’t lay right. It’s been touched by many. It’s fine to return.

I would likely eat the co$t of the necklace then either gift it to someone I know or donate it.

Because I wouldn’t feel right lying about not wearing it since technically it had lost some value because of that.

I am not licking it! Our skin is a barrier against all sorts of things. Not sure if I would return because they will throw it out. Depends on how important the $45:is to you. I might return it or donate it depending on the day.
