Zealot antifairy posters say that any believer "deviance" from what they consider "religion" is making it up. Perhaps they do not understand that degrees or orthodoxy vary greatly among denominations. Check out Unitarian Universalism. Check out Unity. Not the stereotypical bible thumpers but are the individuals "making it up"?
Why do the antifairy police care what fairy one chooses?

I don't need to do any "more research" about my belief in God. It's my choice. It is not something I need to justify to anyone.

And finding Unity as the closest thing to a spiritual home is by no means a step to non-belief in God.

Topics for another thread, is love justifiable? What do we fear that we cling to believing love exists, that we love, that we are loved?

Does fear exist? How do we prove fear?

TLDR you dont want to make the last logical leap 🤯

The zealots on here will likely say I make up my own religion but so what. I believe in God but never liked organized religion even as a child. I don't see any conflict between my belief in God and cosmology, particle physics, whatever. You are free to.
Plus I never have seen any DCUM posters talking about hellfire, damnation for whatever that the "rational science following" crowd says they are threatened with by "believers." That's out in your suburban neighborhoods perhaps?
Try to be a bit more precise in your posts. You complain about Christian Nationalist actions in the context of somebody saying they went to MIT. You don't know that Imam that and in fact I am not. My religion is more metaphysical than biblical.

That's as unfair as mentioning the Holodomor every time an atheist posts. Not all X are Y. No matter what X and Y are.

Just as religions begin, someone sees something they can't explain, so they make up a "god" - rough seas come from Poseidon's anger; lighting because Thor is mad, etc.

Admit that you are making up your own sh!t if you don't want to follow any of the other established religions.

I'd recommend that you do more research and ask yourself why you are afraid to take the last step of non-belief? What aspect of belief are you clinging to that you are afraid to let go of?

Yeah, I saw a UFOs, went to MIT, believe in God.

You think UFOs are spaceships, that I am an ignorant fool woman for not requiring proof before I believe in anything, and that therefore I believe in a made up thrower of lightning bolts that tests people with hardship, smites the unbelievers and brainwashes culties into voting for Future President Hedgehog.

Ok.
Enjoy.

There's someone who says she went to MIT and still believes in God. Wow!

You sound very closed minded. It is perfectly okay that not everyone in the world thinks like you. You don't have the authority to push your views on others. Nor do you have a monopoly on what people at MIT should or should not believe. Yes, there are religious people at MIT! Some of the greatest intellectuals throughout history believed in the existence of God. Does God exist? Maybe or maybe not, but you should not demean others about their belief in God.

It's a good thing that PP is close minded - at least to illogical ideas and bad reasoning. It is NOT perfectly okay that everyone in the world does not think like PP. PP is indicating critical thinking skills and the ability to use reason and logic. If more of the world would "think" like PP, the world would be more okay.

Additionally, it is the theists that are using authorities to push their views on others.

Those great intellectuals often lived prior to many of the modern discoveries and understanding of the natural world, including during times where to not promote religious dogma could result in punishment and death.

And you shouldn't demean people who don't believe in God - or push your ideas on them. And you should not make up stories about them, either.

A child that suffers from cancer or other debilitating disease before dying - God is good

A person survives a horrific accident and is disfigured for life (a miracle they survived, although God could have prevented the accident in the first place but he wants to test you for "reasons") - God is good

A young, devout girl is brutally raped by her priest and forced to carry the pregnancy to term because of anti-abortion laws passed by other believers - God is good

🙄🙄🙄

Had a former friend, an evangelical, tell my children that the Sandy Hook school shooting was not a tragedy, the children were just "called home to be with the lord". That the Jews suffered and died in the Holocaust because they denied Jesus. Devout Christian....shitty human being. Being able to turn into a person like this that "praises" a god like this, is a testament to the power of indoctrination. It's also why she is a FORMER friend.

Historically speaking Evangelical Christians are not true Christians. So, they do not speak for Christians. Evangelicals are oftentimes misguided, bigoted, and disturbed people. Their teachings and beliefs do not coincide with the origins of Christianity.

There are many people who labeled themselves as Christians, but they are just masquerading. Their hearts, minds, and behaviors are full of evil. Unfortunately, there are lots of wolves in sheep clothing abusing religion (primarily Christianity) to oppress others. Anyone who condones evil and makes excuses for atrocities which harms others is not a Christian.

Atheism may not be universal at MIT, but it almost is. It's hard to be a science nerd and also be religious.

I've probably broken at least 6 out of the 10 commandments, and I have been an unbeliever for a really long time and have not been smote yet. 😈👽👻

Me neither -- of course believers say that I will burn in hell when I die, but I simply don't believe that. When I die, I die.

As my grandma used to say: "When you're dead, you're dead for a long, long time."
