You know what else they have done? They have done every superintendent selection in secret behind closed doors. There is no reason for that. Lots of school districts have an open hiring process for superintendents. They hold forums with the candidates and let the public ask questions. Large school systems do this. There is no excuse for MCPS not doing this.

The BOE holds a secret selection process, the candidates are never known (stop saying no one applies the names are never public) and the BOE votes in secret.

Remember during the Magruder shooting McKnight was interviewing in secret BOE meetings in College Park.

Remember when the BOE selected someone who immediately withdrew when his name was announced because of public concerns about inexperience? Remember the one that immediately withdrew because of financial issues?

Submit for public comment? Sure. And it should be rejected if it looks like anything like what MCPS has done in the past.


Obviously, public comment will be a blood sport. Whoever screams the loudest will drown out any sensible reflection on the plan.

They’ll never be satisfied. They can’t even come up with an unanimous priority for the system.

We’ll end up with interims for years and then whoever no one else wants.

You do realize that with the regional program model, which has superboundaries built into it that students cannot cross, that MCPS has already split the county up, right?


You do realize that the majority of students never go to school outside their home boundaries so the regional program model “superboundaries” don’t really create an issue?

This comes up every snow day. Yes, the county is big. Perhaps "too big." No, that's not going to change.
