Only the rich eat fresh berries in winter.

Giant had berries for 1.99 a pint last week.

I'm a PP. I only buy berries in winter if they're on sale, because my dogs like them. I got organic blueberries last week for 2.49/ pint.

Because your DOGS like them? Holy F pp. no wonder 1/2 country is mad as hell

I’m allergic to red meat. Ground chicken/turkey replaces ground beef seamlessly in 99% of meals and is cheaper anyway.

We shop at LIDL once a week. $125 feeds our family of 3 (2 adults/1 teen) for the week. Lunches are packed daily and we cook 3 meals a week for dinner (leftovers the 4th night, dinner is part of a family activity the 5th night, we order takeout or go out one night, and usually one night we forget to eat dinner and just grab hummus and veggies.

Clearly we are gourmet eaters, but we are all happy and healthy and the budget is good.

Aldi, hmart. Multiple meatless meals. We eat a ton of eggs and get them on sale and they last forever. We don't eat out with kids, it's not worth it. I don't buy cookies and few snacks. No berries in winter unless a super sale. But we have always done this.

I shop the sales.

Found beef chuck for $5.99/lb this weekend. Yes, really. Bought several for the freezer. I'll be using them for pot roasts for the next few months.

Costco is currently selling beef chuck for a decent price but you have to buy a huge chunk that looks around 20-30 lbs. I didn't look closely at the price but lots of people were checking it out.

We bought a bunch of dry goods at Amazon Fresh during their closure.

We buy a lot less extras, manage food waste, shop some at Aldi and pay attention to sales. Meal planning helps a lot.

We’ve made some quality changes too. Instead of having steak twice a month on sale, we have steak once a month but buy more expensive cuts. Tastes way better but is overall slightly cheaper.

We’ve managed to keep the food budget pretty stable with two teen boys.

Now I bought this and have in freezer just in case. Even a rare 5 guy trip is too hard to justify- like $70

What is that red thing called and where did you get it?

I don't save money on food! We've been shopping at Aldi for years already, and now my babies and toddlers have grown big preteen appetites and want MEAT. We used to be a mostly vegetarian house and were pretty strict about buying no more than one meat a week, so eating lots of eggs, tofu and beans kept things cheap. No more.

We still shop at Aldi, but our average weekly bill has gone from $100 in 2019-2020 to $150 now. And that's not including trips to another store to supplement with stuff they don't sell at Aldi every few weeks.

We throw large parties at least 3 - 4 times a year. This means that I am always buying raw material in bulk - rice, various flours, lentils, whole spices, oil etc - to keep costs down, and I cook all the food myself.

One of the most cost-effective and easy to make foods is to make fresh pasta in bulk. I directly store it in freezer and use it for my parties. Similarly, I make a killer all-purpose meat based pasta sauce that is better than anything you can get commercially. I also make it in bulk too. https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/130358/worlds-best-pasta-sauce/

I also Sandra Lee some of my recipes. I make a lovely dessert for large parties - sugared fruit and custard on a flaky crusty sweet pastry square...and I just saw at a bakery that these sell individually from $3-$6.

If you do not need bulk items - just go grocery shopping with a few friends at Costco, and then divvy up the portions. You will see your grocery bills halved, even with the inflation.

Recipe please. I'm so tired of buying $50 cakes for dinner parties.

If it's sandra lee it's probably going to be half boxed stuff. So the "sweet pastry square" is frozen puff pastry and the "custard" is instant vanilla pudding. Go to sally's baking addiction for fully homemade ideas.
