None of which is relevant to his responsibility to support his child.

Woman told him a week before giving birth. Did not seem to know how far along. Were not living together.

The baby will need a crib, mattress, sheets, and/or bassinet, a video monitor, burp cloths, blankets, CLOTHES AND DIAPERS THAT FIT, and a well supported mother who can rest. Rocking chair. For starters.

Needs a head support thing for the car seats too.

If she can't afford the absolute necessities for a baby then she should not have had a baby!

If he can't afford the absolute necessities for a baby, then he shouldn't have either. He's as responsible for this baby as she is, and since OP isn't encouraging her own son to step up, she can provide instead.

What an astute and helpful comment! Perhaps she should just shove the baby back up her vag until she can save more money and plan better!

It is for me ever since I don't actually go grocery shopping. I know people have feels about words like "Costco'd" but it's been a while, I have simply crossed that Rubicon river

I am leaving the child support and lawyer stuff to him and his father. His dad was never a super present dad raising our own kids so as far as I am concerned he can do all that. There will be child support.

They are getting the baby out of the NICU today ahead of the snow

I have about 5 cases of ready to feed formula that have arrived, both similac and enfamil. I know now there are particular differences but maybe he'll eventually tolerate both. I am already hooked up with an infant / young child social services charity about a mile from my house, so it won't go to waste either way. I already donate things I crochet like caps and blankets and buntings.

Counting, I have about 550 diapers size 1 and a case of wipes for her, I'm sure she'll go through them.

I bought a car seat but someone else donated one, that's all cool, too, if I ever babysit it's good to have two. She has several aunts who are also getting involved this week so she'll be good.

My older son is flying in from London this afternoon to go ride out the storm with him at his home and do some older brothering.

Thanks for still listening!

Your daughter has had ample time to prepare for the birth if her child so why hasn't she?

Some ideas:

• Bottle/nipple brushes
• Burp cloths
• Baby shampoo/body wash/baby lotion
• Extra baby pajamas, socks + a sweater and a hat.

For Mom:

• Snacks or prepared/frozen food
• Bottled water
• Body/Hand lotion
• Toilet paper, paper towels 🧻
• Warm socks

What’s the update, OP? How’s Kevin? How far away are you? Have you gotten to see him yet?

same-- both my kids arrived 6 lb 6 oz (doesn't sound like this baby is that much of a preemie anyway)- used newborn diapers and clothes at least the first month or more with both--

but also do you know she eats velveeta and spam? maybe just chop up some salads and fruit for her

FWIW, my kids were both about that weight full term (DH and I are short), and we needed newborn, not preemie, clothes and diapers.

These people buy gifts for themselves, not the baby.
