Good idea, maybe ICE can get the job done in peace.Actually, take the entire week. You’ve been working too hard.Anonymous wrote:Minnesota is planning a general strike on Friday, January 23. The call is for people to stay home and do nothing for 24 hours.
No idea if there is any effort to spread it to other states. Worth keeping an eye on. Regardless I will not be participating in the US economy on Friday.

Way to go! That'll show 'em! Hope you don't need any car or home repairs that day, or need a doctors appt, or emergency room visit, or childcare, etc.
With what healthcare will I be able to do those medical things??
Who can afford a 50k car?
Get real.

I’m not fake calling in sick and risking my job for something like this, which, hurts kids and families. I’m a responsible adult and have better things to do, like my job.
In Minneapolis schools are closed because ICE has made it too dangerous. You think that hurts kids and families?
Wrong. The protesters have made it too dangerous. THAT is why schools are or were closed.
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:do nothing? They'll just shop and scroll all day and give Bezos and Musk more $.
How is this giving Musk more?
Perhaps I’m in a bubble. I haven’t shopped at Target in over a year. I’ve never had Prime — and know multiple people who have cancelled their Prime memberships and focused on spending their dollars in line with their values whenever they can. I’ve cut way back on my Amazon orders, and tend to use it for products that I can’t obtain elsewhere. Thanks to a newly opened Trader Joe’s, I’ve cut my Whole Foods purchases way back too. Refraining from shopping for ONE day is something I can do. If I can do this, I’m sure that highly motivated citizens in Minnesota can manage avoiding Bezos businesses for a day — even the ones who can’t manage a day off from work.

I'm guessing you don't have kids in school?
Jesus Christ people. Freedom is a constant struggle. Every freedom you have is because someone fought and died for it. You can sacrifice just a tiny bit to continue enjoying the freedoms you have because others sacrificed for you.
Tell that to an hourly wage worker with kids.
Do you enjoy freedom or not? Inconvenience is part of the deal.
I work in schools with kids whose families have 4 kids in a 2 BR apt. Their dads mow lawns. Moms are housekeepers. They can't stay home with their kids. Get real.
Then enjoy no longer living in a democracy. You people still do not seem to get what is at stake, and you honestly do not deserve to enjoy the rights your ancestors fought and died to give you.

That’s the point though. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, right?
You also don’t seem to understand the notion of community. I’m sure that people will help their neighbors for most urgent needs. And don’t forget, thanks to Musk and Trump lots of rural healthcare has been scrapped and that doesn’t seem to be a problem for MAGA.
Please. You sound so ignorant snd/or naive. The ""community" cannot handle emergency needs. You're only hurting the poor and middle class workers snd their families.
No. ICE is. Who do you think is bringing poor people groceries and warning them about ICE raids? ICE dragged some poor woman on her way to the doctor out of her car. ICE is hurting many poor and middle class workers and their families. Talk about ignorant and/or naive.
Not working will not make a difference to ICE.
If everyone is staying home then ICE will be able to practice beating up each other. I don't understand why restaurants, movie theaters, hotels don't refuse to serve them. Public places can refuse to allow these ICE cretins into their premises.

Lazy liberals do this every day. How is this any different?

Of course not, but it matters to politicians.

What a bizarre and irrational presumption. Why does the government care if you go to work or not? Nor does the government care if you spend money. The linkage between employee/consumer behavior and government policy in this way is totally absent.
What else can we do? I have no ideas. Does anyone? I feel so helpless as the mid- terms are a long way off.
You get what the majority vote for. If your favored candidates and policies lose, too bad. It's called democracy, not a tyranny of the minority. Vote when you can, and accept that your preferences are not universal - other people want other things than you do. That's the way democracies work. An inability to accept that doesn't lead to a way to impose your will on others, whether through a "general strike", rioting in the streets, or by posting diatribes on social media.
