Wisconsin is more of a target/reach depending on the year. I would say the only reliable one on there is Pitt. Have you not heard from them yet? Depending on what they want to do - there are some schools that do rolling admission. University of Arizona and University of Minnesota.

It is hard to tell if this is a troll post, but for those whose kids are junior or younger and are worried by it: anyone applying from the mid-Atlantic who spends a minute on DCUM, with their HS's college admissions office or doing minimal research would know at least two things:

(1) Pitt is rolling admissions, and if an application is in by September or even early October, the applicant almost certainly has an answer (and therefore an acceptance or an answer that helps direct where else to apply) long before December RD applications are due, and

(2) U-MD takes the vast, vast, vast majority of its class via the EA pool, and absent some very unusual circumstances, applying RD would put U-MD in the high reach category for virtually everyone, especially with the stats outlined in OP's post.

If you are prone to worry, and it sounds like you are, have them apply early in the fall to at least two early rolling schools. It is so much easier to get through the winter if you know you’re in at UMN, or Pitt, or ASU, or MSU, or wherever, and will have not just an option but a genuine choice in the spring.

Auburn is another great rolling admissions option with an early notification date.

Don’t be scared. Some people don’t apply properly. Have a range of schools that your child will be happy at. Lots of reaches, targets and true safeties (financial and otherwise). You may be pleasantly surprised.

Being worried is normal. My kid was deferred EA from our in-state public a couple years ago and in all honesty, it was a good reality check and did a lot to set expectations (low) for RD. RD ended up being a pleasant surprise. It will work out. Try to enjoy the next few months, and if your kid has already been accepted somewhere, try to get him excited about those schools. Don’t talk up the reaches.

IMO, there is nothing wrong the list, it’s the timing of the applications. There should already be an acceptance from Pitt because OP’s kid should have applied in September. The state schools UMD, University of Michigan, Wisconsin and UVA should have also been EA applications if possible. In some cases like UMD and Pitt it is harder in the RD round. Also, so many of the private universities are taking more of their class ED, you are looking at an even smaller acceptance rate RD. My kid was looking at applying to BC (from Catholic school) a few years ago and in one of the info sessions they broke out ED from RD and the acceptance rate for ED was maybe 15% while overall back then it looked like 20-25% - that moved it from a low reach to reach if they applies RD and that was before adding in they were unlikely to be competitive for the limited merit and we would not qualify for FA - so it came off the list.

In the end, it will work out somewhere. I hope OP comes back and lets us know how it turns out.
