There is an operating budget public hearing today, and another working session on Jan 20. Go slapping Taylor's face with your findings.

You're talking about kids with very different levels of needs. Plus there's very little indication the number of special education staff actually increased. Some positions were just a change in the classification- temporary to permanent- and others simply went unfilled.

OK, but is is possible that, in adding resources to address the one set of needs, personnel who previously had to cover both were able to shift to better address the second set of needs, resulting in less need for central office personnel for that group?

No it’s not. Good try MCPS PR office. We know YOUR office is getting 3 more people while school based staff are losing their jobs. Good plan.

One more time: The autism unit provides consistent training, coaching and support (think IEPs and placements) to teachers and paras who work with students with the most significant autism, while also providing consults to students in settings across the county. Without training, coaching, and support these students, families and teachers in the programs will suffer. Yes, the supervisor and psychologists were cut which is a huge loss. But the specialists in schools supporting students, families and teachers on a daily basis will have a significant change in their position. Some of their positions were also cut over the past two years. Basically = less support for students with autism. It’s a huge deal, of which Taylor and Cage care nothing about.

Taylor has never even stepped foot in one of these Autism classrooms where he is cutting supports.

What is Taylor trying to do to these children? Wipe them off the face of the earth?

Perhaps I misunderstood, but I didn't think this was just central office staff. They've been getting rid of the autism programs at the schools, so I suppose they wouldn't need as much central office staff to oversee a dismantled program.

Follow the money… it all leads to the pockets of Peter O. Moran.

Oh please, here is the ubiquitous Moran-basher making hyperbolic and flimsy allegations again!

Hi Moran! You failed many of our kids and now are doing serious harm. Enough is enough. Time for you to leave MCPS!

Not Moran…but what did he do to you???

Closed a program/school that my children were thriving in.

What program/school?

They got extra funding to fund SPED teachers. Where did that money go?

Seconding this as a classroom teacher. The current situation is unsustainable and about to get worse.

I thought this was about autistic kids who are also low-IQ and in self-contained classrooms?
