I do wonder about the people who built this house in the 80s.

And the people who similar “contemporary” monstrosities today.

Are they aware that their “taste” is manipulated by passing fads that will be deemed outdated and hideous in 10-15 years? Or are they fully aware of this and want to flex by building a home that is very on trend at the moment?

A significant percentage of my parents friends (same generation, well off) drive Subaru Foresters.

They'd rather spend the money on art or travel or grandkids education. And having a nicer car isn't a big deal at that age.

My favorite detail is that when you look at street view, there's a Subaru Forester in the driveway. I was expecting a DeLorean or something else of that nature.
