The bottom line is we need a proper vacation (not a “trip”) and we need childcare because we don’t have family to come with us or watch our kids while DH and I go away). Disney is the nicest, best food, etc. We aren’t a Disney family at all, honestly. I’m not even sure my boys will know the characters.
ANYWAY…people have strong reactions to us saying that’s what we’re doing. (it was the kids Christmas present or else honestly, we wouldn’t tell people. But the kids are excited so they tell everyone.)
“I would NEVER.”
“Sounds like hell on earth”.
“Why not spend the money and take the kids to Europe?”
And on and on.
Why are people like this?!
Because they feel smug and superior. Are you new to human nature?
FWIW, I would *never* and it does sound like Hell on Earth. Not sold on Europe, though — I find Europe to be overrated.
You find a continent with over 50 countries to be overrated. Got it. You're an idiot.

Personally, not my cup of tea. Hate being stuck on a ship, and glorified, overcrowded theme park is the stuff of nightmares. I always wished them a good time, and listened to the stories of their good times when they returned. Being civil is not hard.
Anonymous wrote:I went on a Disney cruise and it was delightful for the reasons you listed - childcare, service standards -- but also because my kid loved princesses at the time. The shows are better than you expect and the food is not anything special but they will bring your kid like 9 different things until they find something they like, which was nuts to watch. The Disney adults are kind of confusing but harmless in the end.
Honestly people just think it makes them sound sophisticated to look down on popular things. Enjoy your trip!

I’ve never been on a cruise and I’m not a Disney person and I would NEVER say this to someone.
Just say “we are so excited” and move on. Their judgement has nothing to do with you.
Enjoy your trip!!
