Tufts has a liberal vibe, not attractive campus with kids not into sports. Tufts does have strong grad schools in Medicine, Dentistry, and Veterinary. BC and BU nothing special.

If your kid is very bright, 1500 SAT, near perfect grades, interesting collection of extra curriculars but not a national level superstar, doesn’t want a catholic college, wants a university that’s neither too big nor too small, strong across all disciplines, and in or near a major northeast city, there aren’t that many options. It’s the perfect school for a lot of kids.

Historically, Holy Cross>BC and Tufts. But now it’s the 21st century.

Tufts and BC are both underrated. But Tufts=BC. Sounds like you posters have not gotten the memo how “hot” BC is. NU=BU>Florida or any UC not named UCLA or Berkeley. Where does UVa fit into this? Well, oos? That’s private schools tuition for a public school.mi would take Tufts over that anyday.

If money is an issue and they don't give you aid, it is a hard sell compared to a good public. But there are benefits to a private that are valuable if you can afford it. And as a result, it tends to draw a wealthier crowd.

Tufts tends to have good outcomes. Kids there have a bit of a chip on their shoulder because many came up just short of Ivies. Proximity to Boston is great - I would much rather go to Tufts than BU or Northeastern.


Opposite for DC. Skipped Tufts altogether. Had no interest. Now going to one of the other two. Loves it.

Since I went to college, all of these other schools have been on an upswing. Tufts doesn’t have the same momentum.

Agree. Weird campus, weird name, weird mascot, weird colors, weird that it’s a university in the NESCAC, weird that it has a law school that’s not a law school. Overall it’s kind of…weird.

Nope. Actually, USNWR has them ranked just about right.

The Boston area is awesome for the college scene.

It's a top 50 school out of 3,000+.

Tufts is a fine school.

Completely depends on perspective. As a VA resident, I cannot see sending my kids to Tufts (or Northeastern/BU/BC) instead of UVA or William and Mary. This is even if cost is not an issue. (DCs are at UChicago and Brown, but if Tufts was the option, they would have ended up in VA schools)
