What a sh*thead.
What's your problem? Jack Evans is a quintessential mainstream Democratic politician in DC.
Surely you can’t be serious . . .
From his Wiki page:
“While serving as Chairman of WMATA, he simultaneously was hired by 10 firms that had business with WMATA, receiving a total undisclosed payment of $325,000 annually. In May 2019, Evans said he would not serve another term as Chairman of WMATA. Evans initially claimed that he decided not to seek reelection as chairman voluntarily. Following the disclosure of a 20-page memo that identified 16 different ways in which Evans violated either the board's ethics code or the Metro Compact, the founding charter of WMATA, Evans said he had a poor recollection of the events and was focused on how he could update his disclosures. Maryland governor Larry Hogan said that he was too ethically compromised and repeatedly called for him to step down from the board entirely. In a June 2019 letter, Evans said that he would no longer serve on Metro's board following the completion of his term as chairman. It was also revealed that Evans attempted to pressure Metro General Counsel Patricia Lee and board corporate secretary Jennifer Green Ellison in order to conceal the ethics violation.”
Indeed, a quintessential mainstream Democratic politician in DC . . .
Well we want corruption, not socialism, right?
Yes, I’d rather have a corrupt moderate who implements sensible policies rather than a socialist.
Which is basically saying that you want goods and services procured by city government to serve their personal interests and those of their friends and family (something Jack Evans certainly mastered), rather than the poorer people in the city. Interesting political orientation, but to each their own.
No. It means I view most politicians as corrupt, just that some are more subtle than others. But a small amount of personal enrichment (10’s of thousands) is tiny compared to the overall DC budget. I’d much rather see an otherwise competent administrator skim a few pennies off the top, in exchange for providing solid policy direction. Jack Evans wasn’t ideal, but he was the adult in the room when it came to overall financial stewardship compared to most of his council colleagues at the time.
You might also consider that Marion Barry was actually not personally corrupt. I’ve never heard stories of him accepting bribes. That didn’t prevent him from being one of the worst mayors in the city’s history. Personal honesty doesn’t guarantee strong fiscal policies. It’s better to decouple those two facets, and select the candidate with the right policy direction.

And to think how worked up people in this city about Trump's corruption. Is it an issue of scale or team?

What do socialists do?
Socialism means worker ownership of the means of production. To my knowledge, no candidate running for office has advocated for that. There is one candidate who believes that socialism means actions that signal virtue, but she is mistaken and not actually a socialist.
Socialism is more Scandinavian social safety nets, progressive taxation, and high infrastructure spending. Communism is ownership of the means of production. Otherwise, what be the difference between the two?
DP and I'm sure there are lots of great philosophical points about the real meaning of socialism and communism. But for DC politics it's none of that. Janeese is for the people, not political cronies, and gets flak as communist/socialist/whatever because of that.
She cares and is willing to fight for individuals and that scares some people here.
She's for the criminals.
She has more empathy for criminals than for victims.
Technically, criminals are the most vulnerable citizens.
🙄 You all are the reason for getting labeled as fox news talking points. It's not particularly funny, creative, or insightful, so maybe cut it out?
Weird how you don't combat our posts? I'm a Democrat but I don't think we should be coddling criminals.
