Applications have fallen pretty steadily.

There is a big trend to go south because SEC schools are cheap. That’s the reason MC and UMC kids go to Alabama, South Carolina, Tennessee etc.

People have limited budgets and they fit the bill.

Cmon. They’re not “cheaper” than Illinois, Minnesota, Kansas and Iowa for MC OOS kids Try again.

Tulane only got 1,600?

What happened to you? How did you become so nasty. Why would anyone go on a parent website’s college section and trash a college that their kid is excited about attending? Do it to their faces you coward. Do you get off on this time of thing?

Hope someone does the same to you.

The poster that you're responding to isn't trashing Tulane. They're asking a legitimate question: why does Tulane get so many fewer ED applications than comparable schools?

Agree, congrats to those accepted! How lucky to find out so early and move on to the fun part of senior year!

As pointed out already, most of the schools listed as “comparable” are 2.5 times the size of Tulane. Of course they get more applicants.

Why did some people decide to turn this into a Tulane-bashing post? Congrats to those who got accepted ED and heard the good news!

Do most of the kids taken off the waitlist enroll? If so, that’s insane yield management.

Tulane is a 4th choice school. You have to really want a private or just cant land a T50 for some reason.

Funny. For my DC who could have gone anywhere, it was first choice.

Don't listen to some of the toxic posters on this board. Tulane is a fine school. The best school for anyone's kid is where they are happy.

Tulane has 1,838 freshman. With 1,156 admitted Early Decision, 432 admitted off of the waitlist, a robust spring scholars admission program, Tulane has an effective acceptance rate of 80%.

They value a certain type of student who really wants to go there. It seems to work for them as applications have stabilized.

Tulane has been known to defer EA applicants and suggest they change their application to ED2. Just throwing that out there if someone finds themself in their position.

Except most students enrolled at Tulane apply and are accepted ED so it’s actually mostly a 1st choice school for the students that end up attending.

Agreed but for the students applying RD/EA it is. The school is basically an ED1, ED2, Waitlist school.

NP, again, you’re wrong. Tulane is a popular school. My teenager would love to attend. What’s hurt the school, is how “impossible” it is to get in EA. I think they’re trying to rebalance that.

What’s the profile of a spring scholar kid?

Maybe because it's in Red State Maga south. My kids will not look there for sure. Turnoff for many others too.

The turnoff is the swampy location and gross high humidity. Politics has nothing to do with it for many.

Ha- we went for admitted students day a few years ago and someone asked about the weather. The tour guide said it’s just a few really hot weeks but other than that, it’s moderate. A woman on the tour said, “I live nearby and you know you’re fibbing.” 😅😅

We went for a tour this past March, and it was 85 degrees that morning. Before the tour starts, you wait in this waiting room in the admissions building where they show a short film and the tour guides come and introduce themselves. The building did not have air conditioning. It was so hot in there, waiting with all the other families, for the tour to start. The admissions staff handed out water and tried to play it off that it was unseasonably hot. But what about regular hot months? No ac? I was stunned. Shouldn’t all the buildings have it? For a school with that price tag I was floored.

Maybe the A/C was off for maintenance? I've been in and out of Tulane's buildings (including temporary classes in tents) over the last 25 years. They all had A/C. Rice's "jungle" gym basketball court didn't have A/C in the 80s but they relented and gave up the home court advantage sometime in the 90s.

Agree. We did the same presentation in that building (which is beautiful by the way) on a hot April day and it was definitely air conditioned and very comfortable.
