It's important to me that my kids can eat their fill at meals. I grew up constantly hungry with an almond mom, and have struggled with food ever since so I want something healthier for my kids.
So, if the only thing available at a meal is junk, then I want them to be able to eat their fill of junk. I also try to make sure there are healthy options available, but if I'm a guest and have no control and all that's served is donuts? Then I would expect that they would eat their fill of donuts, especially if they know it will be hours before they eat again.
