Sounds like your kid is not yet in school--and that you value long, long bus rides over quality of life for your child.
Dp. You may think pp is foolish, but they're not the only ones with kids in school who feel this way.

It depends on who's in charge. Right now we've got a superintendent and a school board who talk big yet have no spine. Yell loud enough and you get your way, and the wealthier parents excel at this.
One reason why they have no spine is they really don't know the district, so they lack the confidence that anything they propose dealing with boundaries makes sense. Often it doesn't, and they back off.
Down the road we could have different people in charge, or the same people may have learned more about the district over time. It's unclear exactly how long Reid can be our superintendent and still act like she just moved here from Washington State two weeks ago.
If Oakton gets crowded with new development, Crossfield absolutely could get sent to SLHS in the future, if Fox Mill moves to Western and there's space at SLHS.

Gosh I really hope this is a joke! I knew when I bought my house in Franklin Farm that there was a very high possibility of it some day be rezoned to Chantilly or South Lakes considering both of those are much closer than Oakton.

I don't understand why anyone would buy a house so far from Oakton and on the edge of its attendance boundary if they specifically had attending Oakton HS in mind when house shopping. We specifically avoided Franklin Farm because of the 2008 rezoning and fear the lines may change again - which now they are.

Pupil placement rules for IB/AP are the student goes to the closest HS with the program and available space. I think it keeps Crossfield together except for Fox Mill Woods--which is already separate. So, split between WesternHS and South Lakes.
I think it's important to maintain continuity for all South Lakes students. People prepare for the IB program starting in 7th grade, it's not fair to rezone them.
Then if they want to stay at SLHS just for IB they can transfer in from Western.
Also no one is preparing for IB exams in 7th grade and only classes can take in MS are math and language which translate easily to AP schools.
My kid knew by 6th grade he wanted to go IB (we are a Floris family, neighborhood zoned for Oakton until Westfield was built).
Principals came from Westfield and SLHS to talk at a PTA meeting when he was in 6th that they encouraged students to attend and ask questions. He did an cememted his decision. We pupil placed to SLHS for IB.
I'm assuming that would still be a choice once it's official our neighborhood is going to the new HS.

This boundary adjustment is very different from the previous one where the SLHS PTA took such an active role. I am not even sure if the Reston parents that are not part of the boundary changes are invited to the community meetings in November.
Meren will want to keep Fox Mill. Fox Mill is closer than the Floris kids that go there. Some of Fox Mill is just as close to South Lakes as Carson.
Some people keep saying that but I haven’t seen any concrete evidence to support that claim.
Sounds like a great question for her on record if she shows on Saturday at the meeting. Will she let her constituents go if there’s clearly a large desire to.

It’s not going to happen now, but there may not be a choice in a few years if Fox Mill goes to Western HS thus creating capacity at SLHS. Construction is going to push Oakton over capacity at some point. No way Crossfield will get to stay once that happens.

This is what I don't get about the Oakton mom's sports arguments - younger kids play on CYA. All these kids are talking about how excited they are that they'll be in middle school together at Carson. Then Oakton moms are going to tear them apart where only Crossfield kids go to Oakton. It's a terrible idea and I'm so mad at the parents of teens for being so selfish and short sighted.

They will not pull Fox Mill from South Lakes and send Crossfield to South Lakes. That makes no sense at all. Fox Mill is much closer and already goes there.
And, Meren is the Hunter Mill District rep. Fox Mill is in Hunter Mill.
Dixit is the Sully District rep. Franklin Farm (Crossfield membership) is in Sully. The western high school is in Sully.
If Crossfield is not at Oakton, it will be at KAA.
