Just got this text on my phone as I was reading this thread.

“ Hi, how’s life treating you? I’ve missed talking to you.”

It’s not a number in my phone already. I get crap like this all the time. Stop looking at his phone. Everyone gets these.

Do not do this. The text is “warming the number.” Once the number has engaged in some conversations, it will be much more useful for running the planned scam. That scam will be targeted at someone else.

Think “hi this is your daughter I borrowed someone phone I need 3k in gift cards right now or ____” scams.

In general, "real people" phone numbers will return a carrier that you've heard of, like T-Mobile, AT&T, or Verizon. Spammers don't typically use real phones; they use spoofing apps and similar, so their number won't show an association with a normal commercial phone carrier. If you enter a number get some random carrier that you've never heard of before, there's a very good chance it is a spammer. If you get a carrier that you've heard of, I'd investigate further.

wicked! that's strange, i never get anything remotely sound like that from spam.

Google "pig butchering text". Those are classic examples. I get a couple a week. Don't respond and block/report the number.

I’ve gotten texts from random numbers saying they met me at a party. Stuff like that. They just want a response.
