I wish they'd recenter the whole thing on the Janney/Sewell administration with a lot of Bradley Whitford thrown in for comedic effect. And find a way for Aidan Turner to keep taking his shirt off like he did in Poldark.

Russell's character is just too unlikeable. Constantly exasperated and exasperating. She's so lacking in diplomatic skills as to be utterly unbelievable in her role. There's no FSO or political appointee who would get away with the way she behaves.

While I agreed with The West Wing's policy positions and reverence for public service, it was just as full of smug, aren't I clever types. The biggest difference is that the West Wing was well-written, and this just is not. Maybe the Diplomat could just hire a better writing team to up their game -- to be worthy of the setting and topic.

Just finished Season 3. Thought this was the most entertaining yet; the change in power dynamics (Kate/hal) and succession in presidents really invigorated the plot. And there were a lot of laugh out loud funny moments.

I absolutely love Alison Janney and this is a great role for her.

Yes, this season was totally implausible at times. It’s not realistic. But that didn’t bother me.

People I know in the medical field say The Pitt is the most realistic show they've ever seen.
Since I have no clue about what really goes on behind the scenes in diplomatic relations, and no one to ask, I enjoy this in blissful ignorance.

I am neither in a medical nor a political field, and I found The Pitt riveting while the Diplomat is just dull. Couldn’t finish Season 1….

The dialog is fast and hard to follow, so I can only keep track of the overall plot when it comes to the subterfuge and manipulation. I’m mostly interested in the characters. So that’s the only reason I watch it.

But the point is that the strategy/negotiation really falls short this season.

I mean, nothing big happens all season.

And the big solution Kate suggests at the beach house was so predictable that I thought it made everyone else seem stupid. And the big press conference at the beach was also predictable. Ditto for what happens with the sub.

Moreover, Kate really came across as a selfish jerk this season.

Yes but remember they were together in season 1. She broke up with him then. So it’s not that surprising in season 3, although an odd match.

I watched the entire season and when I step back and think about what happened, not much really happened. The storyline basically centered on a singular plot. It’s very slow moving.

Kate was extra jerky this season imho.

There is something weird about the cadence of the dialogue this season .

I think it’s funny that the boyfriend character looks like her husband in real life.
