Unfortunately schools have the money, it’s just used for other priorities.

I’m sorry, what? What elite colleges require you to pass a swim test? I have never heard of something so random!

Brandeis used to require it. But my knowledge is from a long time ago. Probably no colleges require it now.

I had to take a swim test at the University of Chicago back in the day but I have no idea if it’s still required

In some ways renovating a pool may be more cost effective than eliminating one.

A swim test for college?

I also grew up in a district where most high schools had pools- but, there were no county/town/community pools. There was YMCA and country clubs in the wealthier areas. Sure it would be great if the HSs had pools here but with all of MCPS' shortcomings it's a rather low priority wish, IMO.

MCPS is not paying for a pool.

Poster misunderstood the presentation and MCPS did not word it correctly.

Actually, the parents were agnostic about the pool. I went to the community meetings. The parents were outraged about having their children transported to a holding school they thought was too far away.

+1 Parents were between agnostic and opposed. The proponents were disproportionally white UMC retirees.

+1. Which makes sense, because it's very conveniently located to the Takoma Park historic district.
