That is weird, right?

One of the names I suggested for one of our kids was the same as my college boyfriend's name. I just like the name, I don't have any lingering feelings for him.

However, his name was common enough that he's not the only one I know with that name. If your name is so uncommon that you're the only one he ever knew with that name, it's maybe a little weird.

What's weird is the "half dozen friends" who told you.

Find friends who aren't so into drama.

Drama?

It's all super weird. If my name was Maximilian Bartholamew and I learned that my college gf of 3 years named her new son that, and none of my friends told me, I'd be creeped out af.

I was on the side of this isn’t about OP and they are being ridiculous. But if it’s a double barrel combination of two misspelled names, and they have both names and both misspellings to the poor baby then I will change sides. That would be suspect.

DH’s ex had a nice name and it was definitely a name I would have considered for our daughter. It is an uncommon name. We ended up picking another name. If we did pick the ex’s name, we would not have been naming our daughter for his ex.

Get over yourself, OP. Your ex is not trying to name his daughter after you.

If my ex named his kid my name, I would never think it was because of me. I am sure my friends would also report back to me that my ex named his daughter after me.

My middle name is the same name as my husband’s ex girlfriend. As much as I wanted to give our daughter my middle name, it was a hard no for this very reason. Didn’t want people drawing some kind of connection there.

It could be a name in his wife’s family. My college bf’s somewhat unusual name happens to be the name of my husband’s dad. I didn’t use it, but I wouldn’t have let the boyfriend association stop me.

Don’t read much into it. If he were really still pining for you his wife wouldn’t have gone with the name.

I kind of love this. What is the name?

Honestly, the name could be meaningful to his wife as well.

I had a boyfriend named Daniel in college.

Many years later when I had my first daughter and we were discussing names my husband brought up naming our daughter Danielle to honor his mom. His mom passed away just after we found out about the pregnancy and it would have been a nice tribute. We ended up going with another name for various reasons, but I was 100% willing to swallow my pride and let random acquaintances believe I was “obsessed” so I could support my husband honoring his mother.
