Although the college counselor encouraged DS, he would not even consider Emory. Got into ND and loves it. Also for the ones who do apply to both, 63% choose ND
NDs yield for a school with no ED is simply insane. Perfect size and undergrad emphasis; should easily be a top 15 school.

dartmouth stem and engineering sucks. hopkins and NU better than most ivies
100% agree.
But, be forewarned that the workloads & expectations at JHU & Northwestern are not for the faint-of-heart. Some majors at NU are normal Top 10 to Top 20 demands, but most are quite demanding. A difference is that some students/majors are cutthroat at JHU--something that is not present at NU.
There are so many outstanding colleges & universities in the US that one should be able to match his/her comfort level whether it be intense or to coast.
Cornell is also a great school which has some ultra-competitive majors.
hopkins is extremely grade inflated (over 3.8 average college gpa) and hasnt been cutthroat for over a decade now. you might want to reorient yourself.

And ND has more money than Emory and Georgetown combined, so there's that.
The Catholic cult is strong. Methodist one is strong too, however. ND doesn't have a medical school. Emory and GU do. Why can't ND get a higher ranking? It has more money than 5 Ivies?

U Florida is ranked better than any of those privates and has better sports and much better weather. Add in UGA even Ohio State. Those schools attract the slightly above average kids and those privates don’t have the alumni coonections of the top schools- Ivies, Stanford, or Duke.

LOL. Apparently a whole bunch of students care about NYU. More than 100k a year apply to it. Same for BU and NEU.

My kid looked at both Tufts and Emory and did not apply to any Ivies or other T-10’s. They were high stats, personable, significant but ordinary EC’s, did not have what whatever narrative or “it” factor to give them a shot at a T-10. They knew it, and adjusted their expectations accordingly and happily. I suspect many kids are doing the same. Top Kids coming into the college process today don’t even have the same expectation of getting into a T-10 as we did a generation ago.
