WIS is a terrific, highly rigorous school for top minds that can handle the most difficult high school diploma there is to obtain though the International Baccalaureate program. The soccer team is top notch and won the championship this year. The girls varsity volleyball team won the championship this year, there is cross country and top kids in tennis and basketball. So not confuse WIS with DC International . If you have questions go for a tour and see and ask those directly to the WIS administration. We have three children that have gone through WIS and it was worth the investment.

Lol “top minds.” The elitism is unreal.

"Elitism" does not really seem to apply to a student body that is selected for its ability to handle the dual language IB program, and not at all for the connectedness of its parents.

And the fabulous newly-updated campus doesn't hurt either. Highly recommended! Ignore the crazed troll who seems to be confused, into the bargain, about which school this is.

In my child's upper elementary class that was between a third and half of the families. This is neither good nor bad—but I find it bizarre that it's so controversial when a quick googling of a class list can confirm it.

The class list provides parents' employment?

We’re an American family looking at WIS for our kindergartener and eventually his brother.

What have you liked and not liked about the school? Are families mostly non-American? Is it a transient school of mostly diplomats/temporary residents?
If you could do it over, would you choose WIS or somewhere else?

STAY away from WIS.

IMHO not worth it education-wise it’s just ok except the language training, socially and prestige-wise deep bench not worth the investment. No sports. Small in high school. Just meh.

This poster must be confused about which school is being discussed. Just look up the WIS soccer teams online . . .

It seems like there's a lot of confusion on here about Washington International School (WIS - an excellent private school) versus DC International School (DCI - a charter school). They are two very, very different institutions.

DD has been very happy at WIS literally since day 1, so we enrolled her younger siblings as well. We now have 3 bilingual children whose friends come from all over the world. It's a lovely environment, both nurturing and challenging. Highly recommend!

Oh you’re not going to like the instant translate software then.

Hahaha

Fair point

One of my uber wealthy friends sent her children to WIS + they've done quite well. Her family is " name on a building rich" + she could care less about "Big 3" or whatever. She is just very happy that her kids are tri-lingual.

The split between American and non American families is almost 50-50.

The population is not transient at all as most of the international families are not affiliated with the diplomatic core or temporary residents.

We would definitely choose WIS again.

In fact we chose WIS over one of the Big 3 because we didn’t want to deal with the typical DC prep school striver scene.

I call bullshit. Why did you apply to a Big 3 in the first place then?

Exactly. The fakest, meanest, most striver family from our NCRC class sent their kids there. “Luisana, can we have a play date please”

It's not at WIS.

It's the charter school DC International School (DCI).
