Public transportation is not safe anymore.
Anonymous wrote:This incident is horrific. How many of us do exactly what that poor young woman was doing every day - sitting on public transportation, minding her own business, surrounded by strangers, just trying to get home after a day at work?
We need to do more in this country to get the mentally ill off the street. This could have happened to any of us.

Not OP but if National Guard was on that train I guarantee this would never have happened.
That seems unlikely. It happened pretty fast. Even if there was someone in the same train car it is unlikely they could have stopped it in time.
I disagree. Have seen security personnel and policemen take down (pull to the ground) in seconds men who are acting strangely and uncooperatively around Atlanta's downtown and GA Tech areas.
It would have taken more than a few seconds to simply get to the man, even if they were in the same car. And they probably wouldn't have been.
There are situations where trained police could help, but this wasn't one of them. There aren't a lot of situations where untrained national guard can help.

This. The incident has been widely reported. The man was arrested quickly and is held pending trial. Other media reports that people rushed to the victim.
It was an awful crime, but your news source is laughably bad.
Actually there is video that no one helped for a considerable time after the killer walked away. Finally people from the other end of the car did but she bled out.
+1 One woman just turned her head and looked away with indifference.
Everyone thinks they would 'do' something but, it is really easy to be an armchair quarterback. You are safe at home and you have no idea how you would have reacted so stop judging so harshly

+1 Charlotte's leadership and policies had reduced the number of armed security personnel on their "safe" transit system.

The presence alone would have stopped it. The same way parked police cars deter speeding in the immediate area.
??? Did you watch the video or read about the situation at all? This wasn't done by someone intending to get away. He told people what he did.

You could not possibly guarantee that.
But is your plan now to deploy the military to public transportation?
