I have one of those “loves to learn, loves to write” kids you would think a school would love but this year they hate ELA so far. It’s nothing like the meaningful projects they did last year

I think if multiple 5th graders (and/or 5th grade parents) could testify to the Board of Ed about loving the ELC last year and hating CKLA this year, that would be very powerful-- they accept pre-recorded video testimony, FYI. Next Board meeting is next Thursday and signups to testify open at this link at 6pm today and usually fill very fast: https://docs.google.com/forms/u/5/d/e/1FAIpQLScH5gYFeOPOonGBr2DZdaMrYVd2OE1HuTYpgpXtzbv3-sXnJw/viewform#responses (Or the next Board meeting after that is a 'work session" on 10/16, and those usually are much easier to get a spot at to testify.)

Shouldn’t MCPS address, in the first place, the unfairness of using a lottery to determine placement in the CES and the fact that they use two entirely different programs for the same pool of kids, before addressing why they are switching out the one they’ve identified as less good (because it’s not the one used for magnet programming)? I mean, we’re talking about being upset that MCPS got rid of the consolation prize, when they haven’t addressed why they can’t just offer one thing to all the pool kids!

Did you ask about it?
