She had to have known that her spoiler was a witch. Usually abusers don't have just one target. Spoiler was probably abusing other people in that circle for years.

This is like that story of the Liz Golyar that went on one date with a guy and then proceeded to kill his girlfriend and cyber stalked him and herself for years.

That's a mean and unnecessary statement. She was 13 when this particular incident started, and she has probably been manipulated her entire life. You sound like a bully.

Did you see the part where I said she was a sweet girl? I'm saying dumb based on her interview today as an adult. My impression is that she's very low IQ. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that but that doesn't allow her to see obvious manipulation by her mother.

She’s clearly not. As the parent of a child with an actual low IQ, STFU. She’s going to college and she is clearly a relatively articulate and typical child. I don’t think you have any idea how a low IQ person functions. But this is offensive nonsense.

I also think she's a simple girl. She may not meet the clinical definition of "Low IQ" but this girl is average to low-end of average intelligence. This is not a girl who grew up reading books, discussing deep concepts with her parents, and taking AP classes in college. The fact that she's going to college means nothing - kids with Down Syndrome go to college now.

There was a body camera video from during the investigation. I guess you never know how you would react in those situations, but nobody's reaction on that bodycam video was what I would expect. Too calm, maybe? Like, even if they didn't know that this specific trouble was coming at this time; they knew something was coming.

Well the police officer was being very indirect. He was talking like he was sympathetic to Kendra and so Lauren just sat in a stupor unsure of what was even going on. It is a hard pill to swallow that those sexual and demeaning messages were coming from inside her own home, and the fact that the policeman never even came out and said it directly didn't help her processing.

Heck, I was confused as hell during that whole conversation, and I am an adult who already knew what was going on. I don't understand what exactly that whole word salad was even supposed to be about. And then he just leaves all these upset people sitting there, like "Well I hope you guys can work all this out! See ya." Like ??? what?

I am also very baffled as to why they were even discussing anything with Lauryn with her abuser in the same room at that point. Like why didn't they talk to Lauryn and her father alone and clearly explain what had been going on and how they knew for a fact it was her mom? And why wasn't there a counselor or therapist present? It's not like this insane woman went from having a perfectly healthy relationship with her daughter to launching this abuse campaign and there's just nothing else to start unpacking there. Lauryn seemed like, at least at the time of filming, that she's still very much wrapped up in a toxic relationship with her mom. I hope she has a REALLY good therapist who can help her see that (if she hasn't already) and to help her process/heal from the betrayal and abuse. (I bet there have been a lot of other things throughout Lauryn's childhood too; a mother who is so heinous as to do what she did to her child doesn't just start out of no where).

The husband was like "we can't be in the house together one of us will end up in jail so i called your parents to pick you up." Cops like "see ya" didn't even wait for the parents to pick her up!!! Why wasn't she arrested right then and there? Why wait? Also why was the the daughter's phone set up so she only gets texts from her phones contacts? This made no sense from the get go and makes me think the daughter was in on it all along.

Lauryn had no reaction learning it was her own mother. This is so suspicious. it makes me think they were working together and mom took the fall. Shes also not made at her mom at all and calls her her best friend!!! Something ain't right here.

In the bodcam reveal, I found the officer's explanation to Lauryn truly bizarre. He never explicitly said, "Spoiler is responsible for the text messages." He tiptoed around an explanation, saying, "Spoiler has had some financial difficulties and has made some mistakes," but didn't mention the texting harassment. No wonder Lauryn didn't react. Then Spoiler's spouse comes in and says, "When did you lose your job?" Again, not addressing the more obvious crime/betrayal to Lauryn. I feel so bad for that kid.
Agree. It made me wonder if Lauryn understood exactly what was happening in that moment.

I do not believe for one second Lauryn was in on it.

I don't think anyone thinks Lauryn was in on it. She may have known about it at some point though. If she knew about it or suspected it, she knew enough about her mother to know the woman did what she wanted. Lauryn couldn't have gotten her to stop. Lauryn's lack of reaction at the reveal was weird. It did seem she wasn't surprised at all.

Parents of the the girl with long dark hair, the cop and his wife, said explicitly that they thought that the husband and the daughter were in on it.

NP. Those people were nutso! Their daughter was definitely a bully and while she wasn't the perpetrator in this situation, I think it says a lot that pretty much everyone in the town thought it could've been her. Even Owen, her so-called friend, said rather explicitly that she was not a nice person.

And the parents seemed mean too.

I read somewhere (no idea if it's true) that a lot of people including the dad and the daughter had a strong suspicion it was the mom in the several weeks leading up to the bodycam footage we saw. So maybe they just knew (but hadn't wanted to believe it) by the time they got that confirmation.

Not only did the cop just handle it badly by pussyfooting around though... imagine this was a Black man. Would he be treated with kid gloves and allowed to paw at his child??

That plus the length of time taken to contact the FBI and just get the freaking answer make me think these cops were small town idiots. Like it's okay to have less resources and experience, but good god, get some help for these people.

Wow. I just finished watching this last night and I am appalled by the mother. That poor husband and daughter. Lying about being employed, financial ruin, losing everything and on top of that learning that your wife/mother is a complete psychopath.

She did not learn anything while in prison. Still justifying her behavior.

And lovebombing the daughter. It’s really sad.

And to the PP that recapped the cop’s “reveal” summed it up perfectly. Lauryn had no clue what he was implying. Then the mother pawing at her. Using her as a shield.

What is scary is I know a woman who has maunchausen by proxy with her daughter. Illnesses/dr appointments/imaginary ailments. Takes her all over the east coast shopping for doctors. I can totally see her doing this. To control her or keep her under her wing. So messed up.

Yeah. They were innocent in this, but the whole family came off horribly. You can just tell they're not nice people. And they are not raising their child with positive values.

The cop his wife and their entitled daughter were all coming across very unsympathetically.

I think if someone had started it who was not the mother, it was that girl.

But I don't believe she started it, I think the mother did.

It horrifying - even before learning that the culprit behind all the relentless, vulgar and cruel texts was the victims own mother.

It is heart breaking in general that our youth experience so much online toxicity - but soul crushing to learn a mother visited that vulgar venom on her own daughter.

I totally agree, I think the officer handled it poorly. It was a confusing clusterf**k. But it is a really small town and who knows what kind of relevant training is done (likely none).
