Socks and sandals are a great combo. Very comfortable. Add some cargo shorts with all the pockets and you are ready for a great day.

Socks with sandals has been on trend in the US (and all over really) for a number of years now. 10 or so.
As far as the genesis of it, I don’t know. But it is not a low brow look as the poster above implies.

No. Germans have been wearing them with socks since the 1700’s.
Birks have been made in Germany since the 1700’s. They were developed during the Industrial Revolution so workers would have comfort when standing and working long shifts.

It's so nice! I've been doing it (at home) for 30+ years. Because it get so much judgment, when I leave my car, I take the socks off and shove them in my handbag or glove box. Maybe I don't need to do that anymore

Every generation needs some terrible fashion choices to cringe about when they're older. There are so many super dorky trends out there right now . . . socks over leggings, shapeless jeans, sweater vests. I will fly my old-lady flag and shun them.
