Meh...better career opportunities and career track would be Environmental Engineering. These are the better schools for that.

meh, meh, but quite the opposite of what OP asked for (not a list that starts with UC Berkeley)
Similarly unsuitably, the list posted is of graduate school programs.

Bear in mind we really do need merit aid, so if a school is known to be stingy, it's probably better not to get his hopes up. But I welcome recommendations for generous schools, even lesser known ones, as long as they offer a decent standard of education and grad outcomes. He's not an academic powerhouse, but he is bright and would be bored in a sea of non-serious kids. Please keep the suggestions coming. Appreciated!

This! They definitely will give him lots of merit aid (may be cheaper than state school for him), they have an awesome ES program, and it’s very laid back and cooperative there.
Anonymous wrote:Wooster, Beloit, St Olaf all sound like good fits.

lol
To be clear, was not lol at St. Olaf, it's a good school, just thought it was so random for a small school in the rural farm area of Minnesota to pop up on this board. It's known around here, just didn't realize it's making headway in the DMV. That's cool.

My recommendation would be to look at Jesuit colleges and universities. Many have excellent biology departments. It doesn't matter if you're not Catholic. And a student with this profile will likely get good merit aid.
