They are probably overenrolling with full pays because they need the cash!

He had also been told in early June that the waitlist is closed and that they were full.

Dumb of them to close the waitlist in the first place. Most others remain open.

They were probably trying to be transparent and figured, people don't want their hopes up unnecessarily so let's just say publicly we are not taking more.
Then things changed. As others said, weird year.

My son was an RD waitlist

Duke didn't waitlist any ED deferrals (which I think was awesome!--all
Schools shouldn't do this)

Oops. "Should" do this.

Same thing happening at Northwestern. Benefit cuts were huge.
Both schools are increasing their full-pay numbers in this year's freshman class.

I'd image this is true at other schools?

Duke basketball looks really good this year and football should also be solid. Go to Duke! Buy your kid a tent for KVille!

Honestly, could mean smaller freshman admits all around if they have so many kids who deferred to next year.

The students who deferred would all be international students, who fit a different institutional need. That probably means that Duke won't accept as many international students from the class of 2026?

No idea. I doubt they even know at this point.

I think Duke is finding itself in the same spot as schools like Michigan, but they are a month+ behind the curve.

It’s all so volatile, my guess is no plan any which way as of now.

Do you think he'd have picked Duke if he'd been accepted in April?

It’s very possible, would have required a revisit. Duke has attributes that his current school doesn’t (sports, weather, limited campus protests)

The campus protest is way overblown except maybe Columbia, wouldn’t decide based on that.

It’s an important factor for us, I’ll leave it at that.

Fair enough, just sharing mine is at one that probably would named on hot list and there was nothing this year. Absolutely do what’s best for you, congrats to your child.

Thank you. The campus was rocky this year but changes are in place that look promising.
