The public is not UMD. And I am comparing paying tuition at a public u vs tuition at a private u. Not k-12. And the tuition includes fees. The only payment I wasn't including was living/food because the situations are different.
That said, I can totally see the value in going to private k-12 whether the student goes to public or private u. Not sure why that matters.
OP, there is ZERO reason why you can't just name the school. Your kid isn't the only one there. You're at no risk of outing yourself. The refusal of posters on this board to provide even the most basic information out of fear of being outed makes posts like yours worthless.
Not OP but why do you care? You can look up tuition and fees for any of these schools in five seconds on Google.
The post was about how nice it is to pay public university tuition after paying so many years of private school. Which public university that is specifically for OP is irrelevant. You can find all of their price tags with almost no effort, it’s not like it’s unverifiable.
The post specifically said "top" public. It's helpful to know what's considered "top." OP's definition may differ from reality.
So, you admittedly wanted to know so you could possibly attack what he considers a "top" public? And you wonder why they don't want to disclose it? OK
OP here - I am a she!![]()
I didn't name the schools because the 2 schools together could be identifiable. I included top in my op to signal that is is not a directional school (or whatever term DCUM uses to disparage publics) and the educational opportunities there are world class.
All that said, yes, my post was about the general feeling of paying so little after paying so much. It really hit home. Who is to say what the outcomes will be but both kids are very pleased with their situations.
You don’t need to name both. Just name the public.

They attend a k-12 private right now that is $30K/ year. We would basically be getting a raise if they attend instate public! I really hope that works out!
nice but i always wonder why send your kid to private k-12 then go to public university for college?
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:What “top” public only charges 6k per semester?
I’m not OP, but SUNY would fit this price, even slightly less, for tuition and fees per semester.

I'm so jealous of the people that live in Georgia.
And Florida. I believe it’s free tuition for in state residents.
We’re in the same boat as op. actually cashed in 10k per year from each 529 because we realized college was going to be cheaper.

Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Can we stop referring to UMD as a “top” public? When 16 other public colleges are ring tire, it’s not “top“. It’s fine, sure, you can even say strong if you want. But “top?” Nope
UMD is top 20 in my kid’s major. Given that there are thousands of colleges, I am good with the word “top” for
UMD.

I just paid the tuition for my college freshman's fall semester at his (top) public. It was just shy of 6k. This feels like pennies after what I have been paying for my oldest's tuition per semester at their private (just shy of 35k.) It is shocking now that it is real. And I am glad the situation was not reversed.
Good lord. I’m paying $90k/year for an Ivy. $35k for a private? That’s the price of UVA.
the PP must have meant 35k for tuition per semester. Tulane Tuition not counting Room and board is 69k for the year.
Ivy tuition-only per semester is lower than 35. We pay 89k a year total for tuition (60k) room board and fees, and are happy to do so, though we paid 32k for private k-12 so the delta seemed reasonable to us considering savings and salary. Ivies and similar are well worth it.
