Running out of water and having to wait a long time just to catch the server's attention, means I have to stop eating after a few bites if I'm really thirsty.
For the last year I've started ordering 2 glasses of water right from the start. Sometimes we "joke" that I'm just saving the server a trip to the table later.
There are 2 "nicer" restaurants in our little town and they both serve small glasses of room temp water. Now I have to ask for 2 tall glasses of ice water when we go there.
I hate being annoying, but I just want to have ice water available the entire time I'm eating!

OMG, thank you! I loved that thread. "Water doesn't really quench my thirst."![]()

I’ll go to my grave defending her. It’s well known that fine dining pairs wine and food for a reason - the acidity and tannins of the wine make the food taste better. So wanting lemon water or a flavored seltzer or soda is totally sensible.
No, soda dulls the tastebuds. Wayyyy too much sugar. There are no “soda pairings,” you know.
Oooo next time we are out, I’m totally going to ask my server which soda pairs nicely with the entree I’ve chosen! Hope I can keep a straight face.

And to the poster who listed how some people want things taken away, some don’t. Etc. a good wait person asks. They check in at the table. May I take the empty dishes for you? Can I get you anything else? Would you like another refill?
When they charge $5 for ice tea. I don’t want to sit and not be able to eat because I have to stare around till I find someone to refil my drink.
And the fact that wait staff have blinders on to other tables is poor training too.
Do better.

Anonymous wrote:We only have one size glass. And bringing 2 at a time would imply that the person is consuming their beverage at an excessive rate. Would be impolite.

Take the feedback and do a better job. Provide the service for tips you feel entitled to.
While yes, there are a lot of rich snobs on this site, I am not rich. When I get the chance to go out, I do expect some basic good service and that includes periodically checking my drink. The service nowadays isn’t good-servers act like customers asking for something is an “extra” and they’re put out by having to do something that’s a normal part of their jobs. If you don’t like it, find a different job.
Madam, I do my job well. Today during my lunch shift I provided 7 diet coke refills to a gentleman who was very thirsty. Plus provided one to go. Because this is a slow time that was easily done. Of course good servers strive to provide excellent service, including drink refills!
My point is if you drink your beverage at such an excessively quick rate, and I happen to be busy, you may have to wait a moment.

There are all kinds of things to complain about at restaurants… this is not one.
