Giving free meals to someone with over 200k seems like a waste of taxpayers money. How about a million dollars? Where does it end?

Actually OP qualifies for a lot. Stay mad.
And OP should apply. Our taxes go into these services for when we may need them. You're not a hero for never needing them - you're simply lucky.
OP is worth over 400k, so she is lucky as well. She can apply for whatever programs she wants, but it's hard to believe that these programs were intended for people like OP.

You might have to re-frame your lifestyle, discretionary spending, and overall expenses, but youre certainly not at the threshold of "poor" to trigger free food from FCPS.
Its unlikely the cs has been modified if they just lost their job a month ago.
So maybe Op should consider adjusting the child support sooner rather than later.
Or, she can get a job, any job.

Anonymous wrote:If you are unemployed, you have time to prepare food at home. Go to a food bank for staples, and pack lunch.
You aren't desperate enough to feed your kid school lunch yet.
Anonymous wrote:You are concentrating on little help here and there instead of taking control of your life and turning the $200k and/or the house into one million. You are talking about a rental, but leaving out how much it would cost you.
If you knew anything about stock market and investing, you'd know that you can turn your investments and the house money into one million really fast like within 3-6 years. Once it is a million, you can make $90k+ nearly tax free forever, use another $200k and try again. Now you have experience and you can do it much faster.
You can get a job in a restaurant tomorrow without much experience and make $4k a months soon after.
I will never know why you would concentrate on unemployment and free meals when you have the money to invest yourself into financial freedom and teach your kids how it's done. I did it on minimum wage. Took me 15 years to get to the $200k and I did it the slow way as I didn't know any better.
The assets and the money you already have is to be used to make more money and not count months how long it lasts. I can last forever when done right. I did it, so not making things up. Also, don't forget taxes and taking advantage of all credits/deductions available to you. Again, heck with the unemployment. Stop wasting your time and energy on it.

Anonymous wrote:It can be hard to get unemployment. What I mean by that is that a lot of places have very specific requirements in order to get paid for unemployment. In some places you have to check in weekly. Once you haven't applied right / followed all of the rules you won't get back pay. Make sure you've done everything that's needed.
Additionally, yes, you should apply to have child support changed.
Certainly you can apply for FARMs. This might get you a break on aftercare/beforecare as well.
If the money you're referring to is in your 401K, you don't need to immediately plan on liquidating it. Your retirement matters too and you may only be unemployed for a short time.
Another thing to think about is health insurance. Can the kids be on your ex-husband's insurance if they were on yours?
But yes, also, conserve your money by going to food pantries. You're who they're for.
There are also breaks you can get on utilities if you are low income, so you could look into that.

That seems really odd.
