She'll grow out of it, OP. Don't fret.

However, she's now saying that it's a "middle-aged white woman name" (keep in mind that she is white) and demanding that we call her "Cherry". She's already got her friends to call her Cherry and plans to start high school introducing herself to classmates and teachers as Cherry. I'm not a fan. In addition to the inappropriate associations that cherries can have, Sharon is her name. It's a wonderful, lovely name, and now she's saying that she wants to be called a piece of fruit? I don't get it. WWYD?

Cherry? Any relation to Blueberry (iykyk)?

Tell her that nicknames have to be bestowed by others and EARNED, they CANNOT be made up by the person themselves. People make fun of people who do that.

This is what happens when parents try to be too clever with names. Just pick a top 100 name that’s not in the top 10 or so. It’s not that hard.

I did something similar as a teen (and also had a name that was really unusual for my generation.) I really appreciated that my parents didn’t bat an eye. I kept it up from about a month and then dropped it.

Interestingly, when I was around 30 the name really took off in popularity and I know many kids with my once “weird old lady name.” (Think a ruby/Josie/stella type name.)

Let her be Cherry if she wants! (But also I think we should all be prepared for our current teens to name their babies Barbara/nancy/sharon/linda.)

How about Cherie or Sherry or Cher?

Also all Boomer names.

And..no body will be thinking of virginity. That is ALSO a Boomer thing.

A BOOMER

Well, I'm not a boomer and that's what I thought of what are the other "connotations" ppl are thinking of with this name? I'm suggesting mom them to her Her peers may not think of it, but older, creepy men might, and she should know that.
