This is just a money grab from SYC. They announced it after almost no one could reasonably go to another club. Any coach that goes along with this has ruined trust with the parents.

What club does your DD play for?

Any concerns about the concussions?

What concussions?

How much more in general do we need to budget for this year? It seems like we will have some additional paid tournaments? Are we talking 200 bucks or 800 bucks? Used to 2-4 out of state tournamnrt and league weekends a year. Is EDGE "not required" but my kid would be the only one not doing?

I would say the fee structure has not been published yet. But the estimated rate should be about $20 - $15 per player to use the facility when the team decides to utilize the program. Also, if you didn't know when you signed your contract for travel sports, you agreed to pay all team fees. That includes uniforms, tournaments, winter leagues, and extra training or facility fees. (And typically most clubs use the same type of contract requiring that parents pay team fees). We had a family who was on a significantly reduced fee contract who decided they were not going to pay team fees. They were bared from the team practices until they paid their team fees.

From my understanding priority will go to oldest MLS Next & GA Teams, then MLS Next 2 and GA Aspire then roll down from there. It should incorporate ball skills, video review & weight training combo sessions. Usage might be included in the fee for the top teams, but should be a fee to use for other teams. My understanding is that space has to generate enough revenue to pay for the lease ect. If they cant figure out how to do that, it might fold next year as an unsuccessful auxiliary program. (That lease space is expensive in NOVA!)

So you guys are basically saying that ‘EDGE’ is just RAMP with film review? Wow…And this will be a service that families will have to pay for in addition to everything else that’s already being paid for…

Last year participation was low for a reason. The club was asking families for additional cash for things that they were supposed to be doing anyway. Hopefully this doesn’t turn into one of those situations where families who send their kids to this stuff are ‘taken care’ of.

Why hasn’t there been any promotion of this groundbreaking new program to families outside of Travel Soccer? If the participation starts to look like it did last year, I hope SYC doesn’t suddenly start looking to families outside of Travel Soccer to help pay these leases. They won’t be getting an extra dime from me for any of my kids.

I’m sure when FC Training Grounds, Next Star, False 8, Premier Performance, Capstone, and all of these other great companies find out that SYC now has the ‘EDGE’ they are going to melt. But as things currently stand, those companies are able to do something that SYC cannot. Pay their rent.

What about the other sports?

I heard other sports will have access/ clinics there too. They are figuring out all that now.

Don’t worry, they will more than make up for everything when they begin their new program ‘Edge.’ Watch those team fees double now….

Won’t they lose field space if they break apart….i would assume some of their extra space and fields is tied to the other sports who they can claim as additional participants etc
