I am 5’5” and weigh 145 (trying to lose 10-15 pounds). I wear a S or XS at many stores. Vanity sizing it out of control, I don’t know how people who actually ARE thin are finding things to wear. So I understand why some may need to go to the children’s section!

You are both missing out. Mango and Zara have amazing kids sections. Every now and then there is a cool top or shoes for me. Pants are simply too short, but size 14 in tops fit great most of the time (I'm 5'6).

OP here - I promise you that those words would never leave my mouth. That is just gross. That you thought it says more about you than about me though.

Ok, so then why aren’t you looking for stores that have good petite sizing? Because you want to shop in the kids section!


Not OP, but because it's easier and cheaper. Why on earth would I do double the work and pay double the money for trying to sift through OOPP or whatever, when I can easily find what I need in the kids' section???

The shoe is on the other foot here - you're just jealous that you didn't think about that hack.

Also, people regularly tell me I don't look 50, I am not just making it up. It's not like I said I look 20. But I do look about 5ish years younger. I don't have greys and I have taken pretty good care of my skin. It is what it is.

I do shop in H&M some but find the quality pretty bad. I would say I mostly shop at Kohls, Nordstrom Rack, Ann Taylor, and Old Navy and Target for basic pieces. This weekend I did buy a jean jacket in the kid's section of Kohls that is perfect for wearing over short sleeves/summer dresses in air conditioning.


I'm 5'3.5" and weigh 125 and wear petite. No way petite is too short on you.

You guys are just nasty, hateful people. You should realize that height and weight don't describe people's SHAPES. I'm 5'4", 115lbs, and can fit into some of my kid's clothes, because I'm very thin on top and have a small waist. Pants are strictly adult size, however. My much shorter and more lightweight friend also shops the kids' section, but has larger hips and shoulders, and therefore she's not looking for the same sort of clothes I'm looking for.

Do either of us boast about it? Of course not! It's a bloody hassle finding clothes that fit.

Try not to be so stupid.

Haven’t read the whole thread, but I wear size 7 shoes and have been able to get good deals on kid size sneakers, like Nike. The “big kid” sizes for boys go up to at least male size 7, so it’s totally doable.

I’m 5’4” with OPs same measurements and most recently bought wide leg linen pants from banana republic in XS petite. And they fit perfectly. OP might have to hem them but everything else should fit and flatter.

I never look at children’s clothes bc the arm length will be too short. Also my body is changing as I get older and things don’t hang off of me as they used to.

Theory also fits very well in a size 0 or 2. They have size 00.

years ago, British Airways lost my luggage in London. I had to shop for new clothes, and it was super difficult to find petite sizes. That's changed now in London, but for the most part, Europeans are taller than Americans, especially the Scandinavians, ie, the Swedes.


It is not just about height, it is about how things fit and are cut. And btw women in the US and UK have about the same average height around 5 foot 3 and a half to 5 foot 4.

I'm 5'8" and have bought clothes in the kid's section. Some stuff is just much cheaper. (Shorts, polos for golf, shoes, etc).

Teen sizes would work for you but not necessarily kids size. Their pants and dresses aren't shaped for a woman's figure.

17 yr old DD's figure is same as yours except her hips are like 35ish. But, she's 5'6".

Having stated that, I'm the PP who bought ski pants in the kid's section. I like the waist on my ski pants bigger so I can tuck in my fleece shirt, and those pants also have velcro on the waist so I can cinch it. I got a size 16. Works great.
