+1. Absolutely. The entire school board should be ashamed. Movies should not be shown unless there is a clear educational link with the course content. It isn’t ethical to say you have a certain number of instructional days when they aren’t instructional at all! Older kid has a teacher who look them downtown by metro to a museum that meshed up with a book they read. That was a great use of an extra day! My middle schooler is brain dead from movies and is begging to stay home tomorrow. I am considering it.

Even doing flash card races was more fun than 5 movies straight. Poor FCPS. Reid should pay a visit.
Thats a lot even for FCPS!

Yeah, we could, you know, just end school two days earlier if we stuck to the traditional 3 day weekend.

But then certain people wouldn't get their religious holiday recognized by the public schools.

Check next year's calendar. Instead of school ending on June 10, 2026 (better yet June 5) it doesn't end until June 17! The school year starts August 18 so it is a FULL week longer from the first to last day and nearly two weeks longer than FCCPS! That calendar is WAY TOO MESSY and LONG!

Yep, next year has that 5 day Memorial Day weekend that nobody ever asked for.

Just a debacle.
That's only 2 days, it takes 5 to push the end a full week back. They should get rid of one off day in mid-October, one in early-November, one in late January, one in March or April, one in May and then the last day is June 10.

I'm aware, just pointing out one of the many examples of excessive FCPS days off that make the school year ridiculously long.

If they were learning we be mad that they are still learning on the last day

They can't watch jurassic park in fcps, not even at the high school level. District policy caps out at PG for high school movies.

My kid watched Jurassic park (original one) in science last week. Cooper MS
