I’ve heard Sting in interviews say that people come up to him and say that was their wedding song etc. and he just shakes his head.

Actually I read that that song was about her being empowered in that era. It sounds crazy I know but I read about the historical context after also getting icked about it and I guess he's making it OK for her to stay. Helped save the song for me

There is a new version with consent

If you know what I mean
And the way she looked was way beyond compare
So how could I dance with another?
Ooh, when I saw her standin' there?
What’s bad about this one?

Loved them when I was young bc I was also nOt LiKe OtHeR gIrLs. Then I grew up and realized the boys pretty much sucked all along and it would have been more fun to hang out with the cheer captains and ballerinas.
Skater boy was especially gross since it’s delighting in a 20 year old woman being abandoned by her husband to raise a baby alone because she dumped a boy back in high school. WTF.

Beastie Boys "Brass Monkey" is about roofieing girls and raping them.
I'm sure you know this, but just because an artists writes about/sings about/raps about something, doesn't mean they did it. I took a lot of creative writing courses to fulfill my English obligations and wrote all kinds of crazy shit that never happened. I just have a good imagination and am creative. I never have, and would never do a lot of the things I wrote about.

You'd better change it back, or we will both be sorry”
Stalker city, that song. At least it has the woman telling him to take a hike. It’s such a catchy, sing-along-type song, until you find yourself singing the guy part and yikes.
