Meh all these privates are more similar than people admit. When I went to Potomac, the head had previously been the head at Westminster.

Surprising for a southern school.
It’s challenging to explain but there is bad Yankee (Emory) and good yankee (Yale). Duke is in the bad yankee category. If you’re a well to do southerner you’d be a little embarrassed to tell people your child attended duke.
18% of all Emory students come from GA, followed by NY at 11%.
40% come from GA, FL, NC, TX, SC and TN.
Seems like plenty of southerners attend Emory. Tulane as an example has only 25% of kids coming from the south plus Texas with NY its largest state feeder at 12%.

Well Sidwell is ranked #1 in DC…which many would agree is definitely in the top 3.

Westminster is like National Cathedral. It’s an incredible school and most of the parents can afford full pay at any university which means they get the ED bump too.

Wealthy southerners have 0 interest in Emory.
It takes more than wealth to get into Emory. If half of those UGA and Gatech students actually got into Emory, they would attend. Emory has a harder time yielding students at its level from schools with bigger brands. They're SAT avg is a 1550 this year, that's high enough to get into any Ivy/Vandy etc.
No they wouldn’t. In the south Emory is for Jews and/or Yankees.

Families at Westminster in Atlanta have lots and lots of hooks. It is the Harvard-Westlake of the deep south.

Westminster has great athletic programs. A lot of students are able to continue their sport on the college level. That, combined with great academics, makes many of their students competitive for top colleges.

No, it’s not. There are many affluent suburbs of Atlanta. It’s fairly similar to being from the DMV.
It’s not. Westminster is an amazing school. I have lived in Atlanta and in DC. Atlanta folks do have a leg up with Ivy+ admissions. It’s not a smear, it’s a fact. Westminster students are deserving, for sure. But admissions are harder out of DC.

Comparing a DC private to Westminster is unfair. There is also a lot more family money in Atlanta than DC.
I don't think people realize how mediocre DC private schools are compared to private schools in other major cities.
Where kids choose to go to college has absolutely nothing to do with the caliber of the high school.

Stop with the stupid average sat if they have test optional.
Over 80% submit test scores this year. Said at the accepted students day.
Only 20 percent away from being able to compare to the test required Ivies.
Emory can compete with Columbia, Penn, and Princeton then.
Isn’t Princeton 8 percent to? But sure, I’ll give you Columbus.
