I want healthcare for all American citizens but it will never happen as long as we have endless immigration because there is no way to account for costs. It isn't right that people come across the border, sometimes already pregnant, and have multiple children in order to avail themselves of free services that US citizens cannot access for themselves despite paying taxes for a lifetime. I would love to offer a good life to everyone who wants to come here but it's not realistic. The current system is unsustainable. The people complaining here are mostly wealthy posters who are immune to the problems the rest of us deal with due to illegal immigration. They have access to great healthcare, private schools and gated communities. My kids attend schools that are literally falling apart while a ridiculous amount of money is spent on programs to support illegal immigrants in our pyramid. Every year my property tax bill goes up. We pay out of pocket for our healthcare and the costs are insane. Also, it isn't just poorer immigrants who abuse birth right citizenship. There are wealthy mothers from all over the world who come to the US specifically to give birth. Not wanting to subsidize all of this abuse with our tax dollars does not make us terrible people. No other civilized country in the world has the immigration issues that we do.
1. Every year my property tax bill goes up. Where do you live? Property taxes are going up everywhere. That doesn't mean the rise is directly or exclusively related to undocumented migrants. In reality, undocumented migrants actually contribute to local revenues through various taxes. In Virginia, for example, they pay between $51.9 million and $67.1 million annually in property taxes, either directly as homeowners or indirectly through rent payments that cover landlords' property tax obligations. Nationwide, undocumented immigrants paid approximately $10.4 billion in property taxes in 2022.
2. We pay out of pocket for our healthcare and the costs are insane. Undocumented migrants are not the reason your healthcare is "insane." Look to rising hospital and drug prices, an aging population with chronic conditions, and administrative costs for the reason for increased healthcare prices. In reality, migrants generally use less medical care than citizens and pay taxes into systems they can’t access.
Anything else you'd like to blame on the undocumented as a group?
The Undocumented use a ton of medical services. Simply go to your local hospital and look around. All free to them. Meanwhile actual citizens are billed thousands of dollars to get diagnosed with the flu.

Thank you. It would be different if our healthcare system wasn’t totally broken for its own citizens who pay through the nose for terrible coverage. I bet the do-gooders on this thread wouldn’t let their child spend one day at my children’s now-Title 1 school that was not that way when we bought our house. Over 50% of the students do not speak English as a first language.

Stop voting for republicans. This country can more than afford to pay for healthcare for kids.
If the billionaires pay their fair share sure, but they don't. America is funded off the backs of the middle class and you're killing us.

The father (or a US citizen if the father doesn’t have legal residency here) needs to fly down to Honduras and bring the child back. Yes it sucks that the child will be without his mother but she doesn’t have legal status - so that was always a possibility.
2. How often does the kid need the lifesaving medicine? Is it available in Honduras?
Are people even asking common sense stuff like this or are we just sticking to outrage and not actually helping this child?
Also, we need to give the mother some agency. Possibly she was coerced into taking her child with her. That should be investigated. But if she decided it was in her child’s best interest to stay with her - like maybe she knows more about his cancer treatment than we do and determined he could get the treatment he needs in Honduras - then we should respect her parental decisions.
You don’t help a sick kid by separating them from their mother. Why can’t we use common sense in this country anymore. There are far more people that are eligible to deport who don’t have these kinds of circumstances. Stop being evil.
Again. We do not even know if the report is true.
Yes we do??
I mean, even Fox is confirming the facts.
They deported a mom with a kid who was receiving cancer treatment. There’s no defense for the moral bankruptcy.

Did you read it? The "facts" are according to the attorneys and the ACLU. Maybe it is factual and maybe not.
