Why would you think they weren't arresting criminals before the task force was created? The combined resources of the federal and state law enforcement entities are a force multiplier.

If you want know about VA arrests before the task force spin up that information is readily available.

These task forces existed well before Trump. I know because I work with them in the 2007-2015 time frame. The difference is that due process was a thing back then.

We didn't have as many crossing the border illegally 'til Biden.

Biden/Harris knew about them and ignored the problem of dangerous criminal aliens victimizing innocent people in America for 4 years.

Thank you, Governor Youngkin !

I do not support NOVA local government assisting ICE unless/until those picked up get due process before being shipped to El Salvador. Period. As long as the the Trump Admin is openly violating the Constitution, I don’t support local government making it easier for them.

If the Trump Admin starts following the law, local government should assist them.

In other words, sneak in illegally and fast. Make process slow when it comes to leaving. Got it!

exactly. as 15,000,000 illegal aliens invaded, Biden said there was NOTHING HE COULD DO!

and Harris the Border CZAR claimed she would do nothing differently than the last 4 years.

and these idiots thought they could win an election. what was it, 1 billion spend and Harris still went into debt, and LOST!

Last week Fairfax County released an illegal immigrant who was convicted of statutory rape of a minor. The child is also a member of his family. This is the type of man you would support being allowed to be released back into American communities?

We're his immigration status and nationality relevant to release?

If yes, please explain how.

If not, your story is not in the least bit relevant to the question at hand and is a cheap and inflammatory scare tactic of the kind used many times before by dictators who think their followers are racist and stupid.

Yes, it's relevant. He should not have been here in the first place and therefore should not have been released at all within our borders.

Facts are not inflammatory. But I do have your answer as to whether you want child rapists roaming free.

Obama was the deporter in chief and had not problem with actions like these. I voted for Obama twice and have no problem with this either.

No, some of us just know folks in executive positions within Youngkin’s administration and know what he lies about; this is one.

You didn't read the announcement in the OP?

The Virginia Homeland Security Task Force operation started on February 25th. On February 27th Governor Youngkin signed EO #47 that was linked in the post you replied to. He "waited" until the newly created combined federal and state task force became operational to sign an EO that allowed for cooperation between state law enforcement and federal law enforcement.

Please. You don’t need to establish a task force to arrest criminals. Think for a second.

This is not the directive given to local law enforcement. They are told not to assist ICE. There is no constitutional qualifier.

The “should” indicates this is my personal opinion. Not that it’s government policy. I’m fine with Arlington and Fairfax refusing to help ICE. ICE isn’t following the law or the Constitution. If/when they do, I PERSONALLY think local government should work with them.

I applaud Gov. Youngkin's leadership.

huh? he has been governor since 2022. What took so long??

+1. It’s almost like he’s term limited, there’s an election in November, and he now needs a next step. And with Warner and Kaine being very popular moderate, pro business Dems is a light blue state, his next step appears to be puckering up when Trump bends over and hoping for a nice federal something. Really, it’s his only viable next step if he stays in Politics and hopes to run in 2028.

I have no problem with LEGALLY inforcing immigration law as long as there is due process. If state federal task forces help, great. But, Trump is going the extrajudicial route, which I do not support. And Youngkin is and al sways has been a political opportunist. He did one thing right in his career— make NOVA moms (and that includes me) feel heard about COVID school closures, while McAwful brushed off our concerns. That’s it. It’s why he’s governor. Right message, right opponent, right time. But there is very little substance there. He needs to be moderate to win NOVa? He’s a fleece vested moderate. He needs to be MAGa to have a next step, he’s MAGA. He doesn’t stand for anything except advancing his career. VA was fine with him because the legislature was Dem and NOVA pushed back hard on his worst instincts.

McAwful, the Doctor Dude who proved incapable of real leadership during COVID (so generic I don’t remember his name and can’t be bothered to look it up), now Youngkin. Our lineup of governors since maybe Kaine ? Has been very meh. Hope we get someone actually good in 2025.
