Does no one have “going out” jackets anymore? We would not even wear jackets to clubs and big parties because they would get mixed up or taken, and for small parties you wore the cheapest coat you could buy, especially since people still smoked so it would smell awful by the end of the weekend.

This was before H&M and Uniqlo were in the U.S.- it’s much easier to have a warm but cheap jacket now.

Didn't read the thread, but my son had his adhd meds (which he rarely took) locked in a drawer safe along with his passport. It disappeared and he didn't even realize it until he moved out. I personally wouldn't worry about clothing, but be careful with expensive jewelry, etc.

Moncler jackets get stolen at parties. You have to hide designer jackets.

People will steal anything. I had all of my underwear and socks stolen from a dryer when I was in college. Go figure.

I've seen many Hermes scarves and Evelynes on the Georgetown and Princeton campuses.

No way in hell I’d *buy* my college age student anything Hermes. I have Hermes and I worked for it. These kids are soft AF to have stuff that expensive just handed to them.

DS has a few pair of designer jeans and wears Vans/Jordans/Dr. martens. None of which are cheap but way out of the league of true designer gear. Graduate, save and work for it. This shouldn’t even be a question, the world is wild.

Why take this stuff to college? It’s college, not a fashion show. Can’t your kid just be a college student nine months of the year?
