For those who are undecided on StA, what other schools are in the mix?

Get on top of student housing quickly. It is better if DC can get university housing that is in the town (some is a bus ride away in a different town/city).

Part of the overall ticket price. But don’t worry still a better value than most LACs.

About 1000/yr. Considering how much cheaper it is, one of our friends even purchased private health insurance to supplement the NHS. Still cheaper….

Nope, just lots of thinking back-and-forth across various offers, both domestic and international. St Andrews was the only school DC applied to that was not in a city. As it has risen in DC's mental ranking, location has become a thing to figure out. We originally weren't going to visit, but have now decided to go to the in-person offer holders day next weekend. So it will be nearly down to the wire with St Andrews' April 15 deadline.

I guess his offer came in the same day as our son’s. You can always accept as your have another 4 weeks to send the deposit, bringing his date to mid May.

My daughters must have come the same day also! As her deadline is April 15, but we are unable to make a firm commitment by that day. We were going to have her write to the university and ask for an extension, but what if we accept, and as you say, never send the offer Deposit?

We know someone who did this last year. They wanted to wait for some waitlist decisions at Ivies. So they accepted at the last minute and then you still have 4 weeks to send deposit, buying you time until mid May. If you dont send deposit then they just free up your spot to someone else.

PP here. We toured it July last year. Also toured Edinburgh in the same trip. What you describe is the exact feeling my son had during the admissions tour. After spending 2 days there and after the 2nd day’s tour he looked at me with a smile and said: “wow, I can see myself here, it just clicked with me".

we have yet to visit a school anywhere where he felt the same way. Wish we could go to offer day. But he has accepted his “deferred”offer.

We visited a year ago on a whim after both Trinity Dublin and Edinburgh didn’t inspire.

While easy to get caught up in the romance of the ridiculously stunning setting, the whole vibe clearly carried into the community. The ‘feel’ was poignant… to us it was like Notre Dame, but by the sea and in a much cooler town. We could see why student satisfaction is not dissimilar between those schools.

Please share your impressions from offer holders day! Sadly we cannot make it over.

I sure hope so. I was never sold on the idea of my kid spending 4 years abroad. I was really hoping for that Ivy acceptance, not because of prestige or anything, but selfishly to keep him in the US. I have a “me”problem letting go.
