Schools like Carleton Harvey Mudd are largely irrelevant but ranked higher.
Others have commented on why the Carleton dig is misplaced, but including HMC in an attempt to boost Middlebury is also an interesting choice! That's probably the top undergraduate-focused school for STEM in the entire country. Says so much about PP and Middlebury!
Lots of trade schools rejects go to HMC. If you want engineering, go to a proper school like Georgia tech or Cal!
What trade school reject is looking to spend their years doing calc, physics, bio, and chem. It has one of the most intense core curriculums in the nation, so those trade school rejects are quite smart.
Smart ones go to MIT, CMU, Georgia tech to challenge themselves. Just saying.
Can you work a little harder with your trolling, it’s pretty bad.

Would bet pretty much anything the decline was due to a change in US News' scoring methodology. Maybe something of substance also changed, but to drop so far so fast usually means the scoring system has changed.

Middlebury's ranking from 4-12 since 1990, typically 4-7 for the last 20 years only dropping once SES factors started coming into play.
social mobility ranking is tied for 120th
financial resources have dropped to 45th
How sad a magazine is influencing ignorance's mind.
Their financial resources score was 4th before US News removed the country club expenditures. THAT is the biggest reason for the drop. The Pell grant grad rates in 2018 were almost the same as now.

Harvard and brown get Fs too. Williams gets a D
Let’s speak like grownups, can we?
You couldn’t have picked better examples of schools known for being soft on their students once admitted, but at least they have 100x the brand recognition of a Middlebury.

I think being a little larger is great. Aren’t they about done w that new freshman dorm? It does suck for that one post-covid year that was overenrolled but ..
The troll has a fixation. Middlebury already said that they were working back to 2500 on campus and would likely be there by fall. They were back to 2550 this past fall and will get under 2500 by spring. They want to be at 2400-2500 on campus, they have said what they want but someone just can’t get their head around….”listen to what I am saying”.

Irrespective of rankings, I'd say that Hamilton and Vassar offer more distinctive attributes than does Middlebury, although in different ways.
