Subject: How long would you block off for a workday lunch with a friend?
I would book out however long was needed for the actual lunch to be 1 hour. I think 1:15 is fine if you can meet somewhere 5 minutes away; returning home isn’t like returning to a massive office building where inside transit time could be 5+ minutes.

I am meeting an old friend from work next Monday and I blocked my calendar from 1145 am to 215 pm. I only go to lunch outside office 2-3 times a year.
How do you know the meeting wasn't made after catch up lunch with friend was planned? work= priority for most people. But OP could have informed friend sooner of the meeting. or maybe both were not really up for catching up.

Rude to book a 1 pm call when meeting a friend outside work for lunch.
I turn down any meeting between 12-2 pm in office if meeting someone.
I am meeting an old friend from work next Monday and I blocked my calendar from 1145 am to 215 pm. I only go to lunch outside office 2-3 times a year.

+1 I usually block out 1.5 hours when I meet someone for lunch on a workday. And even that feels really luxurious and scandalous - I don't do it often.
I think needing to be back home for a call at 1 is pushing things. But you could have met for a quick walk or something instead of a full lunch. 2-3 hours on a workday is crazy.
+1. If this is person who lives a few blocks away. I’m not sure why didn’t meet for a walk. Or bring your own sandwiches/salads/soup and together. There were so many good options.
But I get the feeling both of you felt too pressed with work that day, which ok and totally normal!
