Welcome to the world of having to pay for your weather information. Only the wealthy will get those hurricane and tornado alerts.

I guess only the rich will.have access to weather reports in the future.

I don't expect either of them to respond - or even to take me seriously. But my gd I hope they do.
This kind of post is crazy. We keep doing this. We think of the absolute best political spin argument we could use against Republicans, "We CAN'T layoff any government bureaucrats/DNC activists, they are too busy SAVING LIVES," and then we adopt it in our minds as a neutral fact.
Maybe this poster is just politicking, but it seems like she's heartfelt. She really believes that MANY LIVES WILL BE LOST during hurricane season in Florida this year if any DC bureaucrats get laid off.
Lady, this is dcurbanmoms. Why are you even posting here if your residence and your Senators are in Florida?
And why are you posting silly hysterics to a sophisticated audience of DNC elites, lobbyists, spin-meisters, etc.? We all know how the system works, we all know how the civil service works, and none of us actually believe that Florida hurricanes become "more devastating" without NWS and NOAA.
Lady, these bureaucrats do not rescue houses. They can't reduce property damage. That's not what they do. And if people about to be hit by a hurricane really think the NWS data is 10% more precise than the private weather data, they can evacuate a few hours earlier instead of waiting until the absolute last second. There will be no extra "devastation." Sheesh.
Anonymous wrote:The biggest scandal is finding out that the federal government employs 12,000(!) people in just the weather monitoring agency!! That's 4 NOAA employees for every single one of the ~3000 counties in the United States!

I am curious, do you really believe that you will get no information before a major hurricane is about to strike? Like nothing at all, this is what's going to happen? You are sitting there in your shiny condo or a house completely oblivious until the high winds start all of a sudden and giant waves descend on your beaches, yeah.. Try to use your brain and stop catastrophizing.

Do you have any idea - any idea at all - how early we start getting hurricane warnings, and how often they are updated as the storms grow and move? And any idea how important this information is when it comes not just to individuals keeping themselves safe - making the right decisions, with the best info we have - but also how municipalities know where to deploy resources and when?
It kills me that people like you are so confident in your ignorance.

It's not the question I asked. I asked what makes you believe these services will be discontinued entirely

If Democrats truly value NOAA's important work, a small fund will be raised to set up a similar operation outside government, hiring some of the same workers. They can get access to the various temperature feeds around the world (most countries will support this), and they can continue the work of tracking the temperatures, etc.
Right now NOAA's budget is $6 billion, which seems quite high for a temperature tracking operation. But, that's only $17 per American. If Democrats think it's important, they can duplicate it for only $34 per Democrat. Or $200 for 1 out of 6 Democrats who care enough about climate. Outside of government, the work can probably be done cheaper, maybe for $1 billion instead of $6 billion. So if we get 1 out of 6 Democrats to pay $34 each we can save NOAA.
But if no Democrats want to pony up anything, we'll know that it wasn't all that important to them.
Sure, that would be great. Stop making me pay any taxes at all and I can decide where to give money to. I would LOVE to pay $34 a year in return for not have tax dollars that go towards funding PPP loans for millionaire small business owners, or disaster assistance for people who live in flood-prone areas, or security to pay for Donald Trump to golf.
