It’s so stressful and can feel so disappointing Our son didn’t get into the program his older sibling is in. This feels awful. I know we set ourselves up for this potentially happening.

I’ve had one child strike out for K and win the lottery for 1st, so try again if you’re able. But I also know how the long the odds are and how lucky we got— sorry to those who have been disappointed this year.

I will be shocked if we ever do get into a lottery - we struck out with all the middle school ones too (not language related).

It is. This is our first time trying but 100s for 6/7 and 60s for RCF.

I’m so sorry. This process sucks.

My French is way better than my Spanish but I can at least kind of help him with either.

I think you’ll have your pick! Congrats. We’re at SCES now.

Up to 30 have a better chance. That being said WTP went into 40s/50s last year!

Assuming the waitlist will move once everyone makes their final selection and over the summer.

Wondering if I should stick with what we got invited for or stay on the waitlist for what we really want.

If it's kindergarten, YES I would hold out. You can name the school if you want specific feedback but I have followed this for several years now and have never seen otherwise.

I'll just add that the Chinese programs are the biggest question mark for me, although even for them #7 is pretty good for K. But they are popular programs with just one class. Even the super popular Rock Creek Forest has safely made it to 30 in recent years. Ditto Maryvale, Sligo. Burnt Mills and Page tend to go very high.

Any idea why page is so much less popular?

I think RCF’s popularity might have to do with the fact RCF’s full immersion began almost 50 years ago and the Page and Burnt Mills immersion programs began as two way immersion and switched to full immersion more recently. Also, RCF had the MCPS “Principal of the Year” (retired now) and has a very active PTA and parent volunteers helping to make it a tight knit community.

Anyone have experience with Spanish immersion at Burnt Mills? Is it considered a good program?

Anonymous wrote:We are currently #3 on a waitlist for entering in 1st grade, after not getting in last year.

Does anyone have any experience with how many -- if any -- kids get off the waitlist who are entering in 1st grade?

Thank you in advance!

I think you have a decent chance, especially at the less popular programs (see PP’s popularity list).
