Your turn then to volunteer!

Very disappointing meeting. Too many “we are looking into” responses from panelists, or telling parents it’s on us to fix. Getting a consultant or looking into an issue is not acceptable at this point after several years of problems.

Lots of filibustering and word salad by security chief, and some downright offensive comments about parents needing to step up, followed by increasingly noisy and restive responses from audience. On the plus side audience questions and commentary were effective, particularly the testimony of a girl in her junior year. MCPS’s Peter Moran offered some decent action items at end and promised to send a written update laying them out. Principal was not there and my strong sense is that he will be lucky to finish out the year, and definitely won’t be back for another year. I’ve been to a lot of these sorts of meetings (for more than one mcps school) and don’t say that lightly.

You have been to a lot of these sorts of meeting? Yikes. In MCPS?

The community ate MCPS's lunch. They repeatedly complained that MCPS has no sense of urgency in fixing the security situation and one woman who has a child at an elementary school across the street, listed 6 lockdown/shelter-in-place incidents. Also, the disdain and disgust for Dr. Mooney and his impotent leadership was palpable.

Which leaders are NOT afraid to attend the meeting with Councilmember Friedson?

What safety measures were implemented after the last meeting in Jan 2024 held at BCC HS?

What will metal detectors do?

Will this meeting also be on zoom?

Should be on zoom as well. check with CM Friedson's office.

If you are at this meeting, please post a summary if possible. Start a new thread or post here.

Here is a 7 month old article about metal detectors. Hold those who have mentioned them accountable:

Anonymous wrote:Which leaders are NOT afraid to attend the meeting with Councilmember Friedson? If you mean council leadership, then I suspect Dawn Luedtke might be there. If you mean MCPS leadership, good luck. They're cowards. But the 2nd and 3rd tier flacks will probably be there in the audience.

What safety measures were implemented after the last meeting in Jan 2024 held at BCC HS? Nothing.

What will metal detectors do? Without a meaningful change in MCPS safety and security culture, personnel and processes? Absolutely nothing.

Sad.
Disappointed at these people who call themselves "leaders."
Thank you to those who care and are trying.
