They’ll all go on their vacations anyway.

I'm in a similar position though my particular teaching role is up for cuts, I'll almost certainly have a job but it may not be a desirable one. My husband is a contractor for an NGO that seems safe for now. We have a driving vacation planned and I will visit my family but are not doing other travel.

Will keep spring break low key. Will keep summer low key.

Big trip for winter break and really big trip for summer 2026.

Will delay home renovations.

Pro tip: flu always spikes in February and lingers into March, and this year there’s a bonus gastro bug going around. Hunker down at home instead of going out to eat, socializing, etc. and set the savings aside for travel.

Every time I cook over the weekend or persuade everyone to forego takeout, I make a big announcement about how much money we just saved.

How would everyone know you’re American? Are you wearing American flag clothing? People always seem to worry about this, but in my experience no one can tell where you’re from. We were just in Switzerland and were mistaken for other nationalities multiple times.


+1. I’m also wondering this. We are often mistaken for other nationalities. And if people find out we are from the U.S., they’ve been fine. I’m curious how all these scared people actually behave when they are outside the U.S.

We are going on the two more modest vacations already booked and fully paid for. We will not be planning or going on a more expansive August trip abroad as we usually do because of the uncertainty.

We cancelled spring break plans and decided against a big 10 day trip to Europe this summer that we’d been planning. We’re one fed and one non-fed. Also not spending on other things except food. DH hasn’t lost his job yet, but it feels like it’s only a matter of time.

I have been cutting a lot of purchases but am not canceling my summer trip to Europe. I used miles for the airfare, though. Glad to have saved them for the right moment, ha.

Exactly. I don't know of any schools public or private who are hiring and the extra funds for tutoring for the middle class will drop off too. Private schools have tutoring hours built into the programmes.

PP said they would do both. You can drive the coast and then head out Yosemite or something.

Also three of the biggest CA parks are on the coast:
Redwoods
Pinnacle
Channel Islands


But also, PCH is mostly closed, so that person is canceling for other reasons and they know it, but just want to join the bandwagon.
