In 2000, I was 32 and just crossing over the $100k threshold. It was a good time to be a software engineer. (Also of note, I was a female in a heavily male environment, although other talented women were starting to join the team around that time.)

I made $18k in my first job out of college in 2000 as a staff assistant on Capitol Hill. Was promoted within a few months to a position that made $28k and thought I was rich.

27 in the year 2000. I was making $20k as stipend in a PhD program. Since I was an international student I could not take on additional employment.

I was 7 years out of law school, a GS 14 and making about 84-90K (I don't remember exactly how far up the GS 14 steps I was that year).

I was still in undergrad in 2000. I worked multiple jobs that year to pay my tuition. I made something like $12-$13k. DH had already graduated and was making $36k at his first job.

Graduated in 1999 and made $36K at a Boston ad agency. I thought I was living large - LOL. Moved to the Bay Area to get my MBA four years later. Got lucky in my last company’s IPO and “retired” last year at 47.

I graduated law school in 1999. First clerked for a judge and then in 2000 started at a law firm. Salary was $125,000 plus a clerkship bonus.
